Ken Gargett Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 apols if this has been posted and i missed it but i gather that habanos is discontinuing trinidad robusto extras and robusto T's. didn't they only bring these in recently? have they been that spectacularly unsuccessful? rob, we must have done a positive review on vid. i can think of no other reason.
riazp Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Personally Ken, I never found anything speacial about the ROb T or the Rob Extra, the one trini I've enjoyed and still enjoy very much is the Reyes. Yes they were released in 2009 if memory serves me correctly. The ROb T is essientially in the same price range as the CoRo which is wrong imo. for the same Money i'll take the Coro at anytime, far superior cigar. Plus Suckling declared the Rob T as his cigar of the year in 2010..that was his death sentence right there! LOL that my 2 cents.
khomeinist Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Does Cohiba warrant it's price point? (based on quality rather than consumer demand which is subject to marketing/psychology). Those are the weakest Trinidad vitolas. Hopefully the remaining vitolas will be around for a long time.
Charltonc Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I will take a San Luis Rey Regios or RASS any day of the week over the Trinidad line.
Ken Gargett Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 i guess there is the answer. must say i have smoked very few. never been a great fan of any trinnies (an occasional good fundadores), and i know others have found much more to them than i have. and the price has never appealed. i was just surprised they went so soon.
SCgarman Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 The Reyes is a nice stick for the money, but the 2 robustos are in my opinion way too overpriced! I would rather have 2 boxes of RASS or BRC over a box of Robusto T for basically the same coin.
Lotusguy Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I was never a fan of the Robusto T or Extra but I am a bit surprised that they discontinued them, given that the reviews of the Robusto T were pretty good and they are the bigger ring gauges in the lineup. On second thought, it's HSA, so I shouldn't be surprised at all At least this is a discontinuation that I don't mind.
anacostiakat Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Not a fan of the Extra. But the Robo T? Love them. Yes their price point for a robo is high and that is the reason I have not gone for them more. It is also mostly likely that they didnt sell that well because of that and hence the hatchet. Sad to release a cigar and then a couple years later kill it.
Habanos2000 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I've always wanted to love Trinidad's, but never really found one that got my attention for the money they wanted. I hate to say the Robusto T is my fav considering that if it does get eliminated I will be back to square one with this brand.
Puros Y Vino Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I enjoy the Rob T's myself and am looking to get a box. I'd pick it over a BHK52 in a second.
Ellery Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I really enjoy the robustos but am in agreement about the price
TonyV Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I really enjoy the robustos but am in agreement about the price I also agree. Must be because i'm only 5 minutes away in NJ.
brutusthebuckeye Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Plus Suckling declared the Rob T as his cigar of the year in 2010.. Im throwin away the 3 i have left now after reading that!!!!!
sblevit Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Love the Coloniales and Reyes. I could live without the Robos and RoboT.
brazoseagle Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Ken, I've had a long day, but I have to share, at first glance of this post I thought it said "Discounted Trannys", and I actually thought to myself, what does that have to do with cigars, but then said, ah hell I'll read it, I like a good discount! Haha
MoneyPit Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I have absolutely enjoyed my MSO JUN 09 box of T's. Sad to see these go but the price has been a limiter for buying more. All of my remaining boxes are from 2010. Anyone noticed a difference from 2009 to 2010?
CanuckSARTech Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I actually like these, the Robusto T's, but agree with all that price is indeed a factor. The Robusto Extras I have been ho-hum about. For the Robo T's, everything I've had from them has been 2010 stock. I've really wanted to get my hands on a couple of boxes of 2009 stuff, but I have a funny feeling that I'll only get that opportunity once retailers/suppliers release a handful of boxes every year or so under a vintage release (hint, hint Rob - I'm wagering you have some of these tucked away somewhere! ). And with me, I find the Robo T's really have a nice lighter profile. Something mid-way between the Cohiba line, and the La Gloria Cubana lineup. I really like them - it's something that makes you pay attention to them, and enjoy your discovery time, IMO. The Robo T's and the Fundadores are classic stuff to enjoy, IMO.
El Presidente Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I love the Trini "T". Unique flavour profile for me, consistent and always enjoyable. As for their deletion I think they just got their product point wrong. Price point was high in a market where it was competing with the Cohiba Robusto and decades of history. The Trini Tube was to be glorious and a point of difference in the duty free purchase zone (some 1/4 of all Habanos sales). Yet the tube never materialized and hence this market angle disappeared for the cigar. As to why the Tube went the way of the Dodo (then again at least there was a Dodo) I suspect the price and logistics of the Tube (now made in Cuba) would have exasperated the price point for a marque which has struggled in the main to carve out its own niche globally. and no Keith...I haven't any 2009's
maverickdrinker Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I like the trinidad robusto T as well. great flavours and nice size. I hope that they don't discontinue the fundadores though....
CanuckSARTech Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I agree fully with Rob - the tube design for the Robusto T would have put them head and shoulders above the crowd out there. I actually prefer the 12-count boxes, but I know tubos have a huge market (I really only get my Mag46's in the tubos). But yeah, the Robo T in tubos would have been great, but price would for sure have been a huge issue there! I almost completely forgot about the tubos (or dropout of same) with these, Rob, good call.
CBL Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I love the Trinidad Robusto T. I'm still hoping to buy a 12-count box when I graduate as the "luxury cigar" in my collection, as I have no special connection with Cohiba to fill that void in my humidor.
nick17 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I have not had the Trini Rob T or extra but i have had the CoRo and i can say this it was a wast of money and for 5$ less i should have gone with the trini, thats my two cents
thechenman Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I'm a huge fan of the Trinidad Robusto T. Absolutely love them. I notice many comparing to the CoRos, and honestly, while I love CoRos, I'd take a Trini T over them any day. I agree the price point is high and there are other great Habanos on the market at a lower price point, but I for one am sad to see them go.
joshua84 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Just got a HQ box of Robusto T from Czar a few days ago. It's spectacular in my books. Sad to see it go. Can't compare to CoRo though since I've only tried their siglo I and II which were definitely not worth their price point.
Rushman Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I will take a San Luis Rey Regios or RASS any day of the week over the Trinidad line. X2. Breaking open a new box of RASS today. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631791,-87.070641
