CanuckSARTech Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Forgot to post this, for the saturday meet and greet, you guys are more than welcome (and encouraged) to bring your own glencairn glasses if you have one. I'll bring my Timmie's mug then!
CanuckSARTech Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Okay. Riaz, payment sent via PayPal for the $75 (I'll go with wine with my dinner; going for the duck confit w/ potatoes sardalaise). Hotel is confirmed and booked. Time off at work is confirmed and good to go, including the Friday, so, I'll be up on the train w/ Frank and Connor on the Friday for the pre-herf as well. Timmie's mug packed and ready. Party hat packed and ready. Hangover pills on order. LOTS of Tylenol on hand. Train will be booked when I go home this Friday (you guys definitely DON'T want to know what kind of a discount I get!). Now, further details on my contributions for the auction/raffle will be coming out in a post that I'll do up tomorrow. But, the main good news for it is this..... The "CanuckSARTech Swag Bag" is stocked and loaded for raffling action. A second "prize lot" will also be good for the auction. And.....the Cigarrignac is in, and will be there at the Saturday afternoon meet-and-greet, both for some small sampling (HURRAY!!!!) and then another bottle(s) for an actual auction. Further details and pics tomorrow or Friday. Cheers all. Can't wait. Now I just hope that the Mrs. doesn't go POP!

riazp Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 here are All the details for the raffle/auction, Big thank you to Frank for helping me out with this : Ok Boys, heres how this is going to work. There will be THREE cigar Raffles, 1) A Cheap and Cheerfull Raffle, where the cost of entry is one hand rolled cigar in the 5$ to 10$ (prices based on what you payed online, not at a B&M) please no guants, belinda's, JLP's or of that nature. your cigar donations gives your a ticket to the cheap and cheerfull raffle. 2) A premium cigar raffle. again same concept, your cigar donation one premium Cigar worth 15$ or more, (again prices you payed online, not B&M) will get you a ticket to the premium cigar raffle. 3) For the third raffle, you can also donate micellanious cigar items (ashtrays, caddys, tubos, lighters, cutters, whatever) that we will also raffle off. each item donated gives you a ticket to that raffle. N.B - For all three raffles, you can buy additional raffle tickets at 3$ a ticket or 5 tickets for 10$. Now for who ever feels inclined to do so, you can also put together a little sampler pack of premium cigars that we will auction off (3 to 5 sticks, all hand rolled cigars). it will be in a silent auction format. Or you can donate high end, aged or hard to find cigars in whichever quantity you like. Basically in front of each sampler pack there will be a pencil and paper with the item details, including value. The items will be laid out for inspectionand you basically write down your name, and how much your willing to bid on the item. Highest bid by the deadline gets the item. The goal here is to raise as much money as we can for the great Nicaragua foundation that helps to feed children in need in that country. Your dollar will go a long way over there.
CanuckSARTech Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Sounds great, Riaz and Frank. Well done. Here's my contribution then....
CanuckSARTech Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Okay, so Riaz, what I gather from your post is that there's 3 different prize lots to be won, with different raffle ticket baskets for each? If so, I'd like to add a 4th prize lot to all of this, and then get your guys' feedback on either an auction for something special, or just make it an additional prize lot. So, for the prize lots, we then have three: A "Cheap & Cheerful" lot A "Premium Cigars" lot; and then A "Cigar Items (ashtrays, caddys, tubos, lighters, cutters, whatever)" lot. So firstly, I'd like to add another, the "CanuckSARTech Swag Bag".... This is a little bag of stuff that I've put together of cigar-related items that I don't need due to having too much of something, or not needing it due to one reason or another, and/or some stuff that I've got as freebies or customer-appreciation thank-you's. Some nice stuff that I just don't have any need for however, and would gladly contribute it to be a nice prize lot for the assembled horde. In the "CanuckSARTech Swag Bag", we have the following: A 16 oz bottle of Madelaine 70/30 PG solution (approx. retail $16) CigariX cigar stands, 5-pack (approx. retail $5) Cigar Minder, cigar holder for golf (approx. retail $12) Stainless steel and leader cigar-holder and flask kit (approx. retail $25) Torch lighter (approx. retail $10) Cuban Crafters stainless-steel punch cutter (approx. retail $10) Blank self-adhesive cigar bands for custom notes, 3/4" wide by 3 1/2" long, 500-count (approx. retail $17.95) Stogie Nubber tool (approx. retail $17) Miscellaneous cigar matchesNOT SHOWN, BUT ALSO INCLUDED: Credo digital hygrometer (approx. retail $39) Two brand-new-in-package Oust fans (approx. retail $10 each) So, that whole kit and kaboodle has just about $200 worth of stuff in there, all ready to go. I'd propose to put this in as an addtional prize lot, a 4th basket for the raffle. Secondly, for the #3 raffle basket, the "Cigar Items (ashtrays, caddys, tubos, lighters, cutters, whatever)" lot, I'll be bringing a one kilo bag of beautiful glory.... And finally, we have the creme de la creme.... Ahhhhh, two lovely bottles of Cigarrignac, some Cuban-tobacco infused cognac from Germany. I need to throw a HUGE thank you to Nino. He mentioned the Cigarrignac in a few posts of his back before Christmas, and I think it piqued the interest of a few of us. So, I followed up with him, and explained to him my thoughts, and he was kind enough to vouch for me and get me set up with the manufacturers of this lovely spirit, Dalbergerhof Strauch, over in Germany. I must thank Mrs. Strauch also with all of this, as both Nino and her have been impeccable in helping me out with my ordering requests. So, we have a few bottles for the herf. We will have two bottles on hand for the actual herf. One bottle, I propose to have for the pre-herf during the Saturday afternoon. That way, everyone can have a shot/dram/taste, and enjoy this sweet yet tangily smokey cognac. The other bottle (with more on the way potentially, once I work out the details), I propose to put up on "auction". Maybe as a silent auction or whatnot. So, we'd auction off one bottle right then and there, for the winner to take home at the end of the night. But then, we'd also auction off two other bottles, that I would ship out / deliver to whichever respective winners get them as soon as they arrive from overseas. And then, the money from all three auctioned-off bottles would go to cover the purchasing/shipping costs of the three bottles as well as the taste-testing bottle, and then all proceeds thereafter would go to the Nicaraguan mission's fund. I propose that we'd have to start the auction price at the actual purchase price of these bottles (purchase price per bottle, plus shipping costs broke down per bottle), to ensure initial costs are all covered. I've covered all initial costs with these, and will be gladly be bringing the paperwork/receipts with me, to ensure everything's up-and-up. So there we have it!
ckearns Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Bravo Keith!!! You've certainly gone above and beyond the call of duty and your thoughtfulness and generosity is greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Great way to set the standard for the auction Keith.
CanuckSARTech Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 LOL. I hoped all you guys would like the ideas. Now, all I have to do is keep your two guys' hands off of the Cigarrignac bottles on the train ride up there!
riazp Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 Keith, that is just plain stunning, amazing, generous and awesome! what a way to set the bar there buddy. for the cigar raffle people, post what C&C and Premium cigar you want to donate to the raffle to avoid too many duplicates. as for me, my C&C will be a Bolivar PC HQ , my premium cigar will be a Por Larragna 2007 Robusto de Larragna Asia Pac RE. maverickdrinker Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 might be too late for this however, I figured I'd throw it out there. Anyone got a connection to someone who can print some shirts? Would be fun to have a t shirt made with 2012 MTL HERF designed and printed.
Lotusguy Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I haven't decided yet what I will bring for the raffle(s) but I can pretty much guarantee it won't be something duplicate
riazp Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 might be too late for this however, I figured I'd throw it out there. Anyone got a connection to someone who can print some shirts? I thought of this too Art, but wanting to keep costs down, i did not persue with this idea...maybe something to consider for the 2013 winter herf
