Ok folks. I know most die hard smokers keep the bands on. I have always had a habit of removing the band before I am done with rhe first 3rd. I am lucky that I hardly ever smoke in a time constrained mind set so j always smoke to the nub which requires band removal anyway. Thoughts?

I usually leave the band on until the ash gets close. Sometimes Ill pick it off at the start or in the middle, no rhyme or reason.

If I'm at home or around buddies, I'll leave the band on, if I go to the nub, I'll remove the band. However, if I'm at my lounge or in public, I'll usually always remove the band, a gentleman never flaunts his cigars in front of others.

I take the band off nearing the end of the 2nd third.

I was told at last night Sydney gathering, "How can you hear the music if you get rid of the band?" Found that quite amusing.

No preference for me. To me, band etiquette doesn't apply as I only smoke with friends, they know I'm not one to show off my cigars and anything I have they are welcome to.

For me, band on until the cherry gets to it, then if its a good smoke, I'll take the band off and keep going for a nub. If I toss it with the band still on, it wasn't nub worthy.

I used to leave them on, and then take them off in the last third. Recently I've started taking them off before I light up, which I think I prefer. Not sure why.

I collect the bands, so I try to take them off in one piece before smoking. Usually I cannot, so I wait until the cigar loses a bit of girth during smoking. I dont care if others know what I'm smoking, so long as I dont risk damaging the wrapper, off they come!

True BOTL outlook.

Joe and I smoke quite often together and we do joke often about "band etiquette". Bands come off when they come off, sometimes at the beginning, sometimes after the first third, sometimes right before the ash hits. However, the one thing that we have in common is that we always carry multiples of the same cigar and if someone, friend or stranger, is truly interested in what we are smoking we always have an extra one to donate to our fellow Brother of the Leaf. Besides, isn't that smoking cigars is all about? Making friends and enjoying life.....

Band on until the burn line gets close and then I try to remove it in one piece without damaging the cigar. If it looks like that would damage the cigar, I rip the band.

I only save the first of any new vitola I smoke.

My rule for bands: There are no rules. When I feel like removing the band, I do. Usually before it burns.

*Band stays on throughout and I always smoke alone (except when I have my fellow botl over for the UFC fights!) If it's a really exceptional one all the way down to the band, when the cigar heats up the band can be more easily slid further up to the tip.

Depends on location. When with BOTL's I remove before starting the last third, when in more 'neutral' company I remove before lighting (Don't want people to think I'm showing off... after all it's the Netherlands...)

I try to buy cigars that come without bands

I knew that one had to come!!

Depends....some bands with certain brands I know are a little more difficult to take off so better before its burning...others when I get close to the band...

I think cigars look so much better without the band. Cleaner and more elegant. All natural. I almost always take them off shortly after lighting up. Occasionally if I do want to flaunt the cigar for some reason I will keep it on. --Sam
