El Presidente Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 What are your FOUR choices for LEAST consistent Habanos Marque? Let's find out who needs improving
Ken Gargett Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 What are your FOUR choices for LEAST consistent Habanos Marque?Let's find out who needs improving i couldn't vote for cuaba. they are absolutely consistent. consistently awful.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Would have been Fonseca, Por Larranaga, Cuaba and then Monte with Fonseca being the worst. I haven't really had any issues with any of the others.
mm12 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I chose Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, and Punch. I would have chosen Sancho Panza instead of Punch if it was on the list, but Punch is still up there as far as inconsistency goes in my experience.
Scdalak Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 What are your FOUR choices for LEAST consistent Habanos Marque?Let's find out who needs improving Rob what happened to the once mighty R & J??? What is status of new factory? Can they recapture the magic ?
El Presidente Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 Rob what happened to the once mighty R & J??? What is status of new factory? Can they recapture the magic ? The magic will not be recaptured without a little passion. There is none currently for R&J. I have no idea when the factory will be reopened. It was to be 2007 then 2008 then 2009 the 2010. Your guess is as good as mine. A pox on the TABACUBA house!

Ken Gargett Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Would have been Fonseca, Por Larranaga, Cuaba and then Monte with Fonseca being the worst. I haven't really had any issues with any of the others. this raises a question. presumably if something is always terrible, then it does not qualify for this poll. as in it is consistently terrible (hence my comment re the cuaba). is that what was intended? it seems that some responses are reading this to be what are the four worst marques. could the original poster please clarify?

I thought it was clear mate! The question was not consistently bad but consistently inconsistent. Oh... ****! Now I am confused!!!! -P
Ken Gargett Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I thought it was clear mate! The question was not consistently bad but consistently inconsistent. Oh... ****! Now I am confused!!!! -P i agree - inconsistent but i am not certain that is what everyone is thinking
Wil Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 For me the most inconsistent is Montecristo. The 4s and 2s can be unbelievably good, but then really poor.
Styler Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 My first thoughts were Montecristo (again, 2s and 4s) and San Cristobal (I love the El Principe but over the last couple of years you never know what you're going to get with them, maybe I've just been unlucky!) Then I went for Cuaba for it's constant construction issues, don't even get me started on taste. Finally Romeo y Julieta as I've had aged/vintage RyJ that have been amazing but see little of that in their recent production.
gigabyte056 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Monte and RyJ for sure, one over produced , the other under loved. Cohiba, they seem to have their share of problems , not worthy of such a brand. Cuaba, they are inconsistent,as some are $hit while the rest are crap. maybe it is premeditated.
dB69 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I can't vote because I kind of don't agree. There is not enough inconsistency/variation in production of CCs that I would be disturbed. If every cigar was exactly like the others, smoking cigars would be quite boring.
dicko Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 In my limited experience cohiba, r & j and montecristo have given me the most grief.
PigFish Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I can't vote because I kind of don't agree. There is not enough inconsistency/variation in production of CCs that I would be disturbed. If every cigar was exactly like the others, smoking cigars would be quite boring. This is actually a very important point... to me at least if I read it right. It plays into my hand of brand profiling, which I don't believe in. I too actually like the fact that CC's are not the same. It makes them interesting. I would rather have a shot at increasing the rate of smoking really excellent cigars by utilizing empirical evidence and understanding my tastes, than to regularly smoke mediocre cigars. Non Cuban cigars I find mediocre, and that is why I don't smoke them. Frankly, if I consider the entire line of Cuban cigars as a whole, I think them also mediocre. I believe this stems from lack of caring about the product more than the materials used. It is a management problem! The best Cuban cigars are sublime. Those are the ones that I am after! BUT, on the other hand the question was regarding consistency. For me, that meant a consistent, excellent smoking experience and probably not exactly what the author intended. While I like to kid Ken and not be overly critical of how something is worded, I agree with him that question could have been framed better. A consistently bad cigar is still consistent. I voted for Monte, Cohiba, RyJ and Partagas as the most inconsistent. With the exception of a few individual cigars, which are actually some of my favorites, the lines are not consistently good! I could give a rat's posterior about a 'Partagas profile,' but what I do want is an acceptable flavor performance profile which most of the heavily produced cigars do not deliver to me. Calling the Monte Esp cigar one of the best cigars overall, while contrasting it to the M-2, one of the worse offenders, leads me to my conclusion. Others were judged by the same standards. -Piggy
Rogers72 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I just voted for Montecristo. I think its easy to pile on here b/c the #2 and #4 have a long standing reputation for inconsistency but i find the whole lineup with the exception of the Especiales to be all over the place. The Edmundo and Petit Edmundo are the worst i think.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Would have been Fonseca, Por Larranaga, Cuaba and then Monte with Fonseca being the worst. I went for consistancy as in construction/draw and getting the flavours that I know exist. I have always had draw issues with those four and also get dog rockets, even though I know when they are on, PL and Monte are right up there as my favourites. Eg worst CC for me for consistancy would probably actually be Monte. I say this because I have had the most number of plugged, bland, hot, unsmokable sticks from Monte then any other marka, even though flavourwise when they are on their game I love them. Best would probably be Upmann from my experience, flavours consistantly hit the mark while draw/construction is hardly ever an issue. That's what I thought the topic was asking about anyway
Dbone Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I really do not have enough experience with may of these. Although, I have gone through two boxes of VR Famosos and one box of VR Unicos and I have found construction and flavor to be all over the place. One cigar burns so lopsided you're constantly fighting a good burn, next one razor sharp. One cigar will be super rich chocolate heaven, the other boring and near flavorless. The VR line for me does not have any real BITE, so if the flavor is off... it really becomes a boring smoke.
Liuk Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 For me the most inconsistent is Montecristo. The 4s and 2s can be unbelievably good, but then really poor. I agree and I'm gonna add the party D4!
Vortigan Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Could only vote for two,Monte and RyJ,based on reasonably limited experience.
Professor Twain Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Romeo y Julieta seems by far the worst to me, I don't know what they are any more (except the Cazadores). Surprised with all of the mentions of Montecristo. I smoke a lot of #4s, #5s, and Especial #2s and they have been very consistent. One observation... less consistency is characteristic of big ring gauged cigars, like #2s and Edmundos.
nick17 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I have to say Montecristo is the worst i have a box of open ragatta's and i swear half of them so farr the draw has been to tight to loose or it just taste bad but when i get a good one i do enjoy it
