gsmoke Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Despite the general consensus that there is little time and fewer places to indulge in them leisurely, and despite being a guy who has to depend on weather conditions, I really do enjoy a good DC as often as I can. When the weather is nice I love having a couple Lusis or RA Gigantes, among others, during a week. Am I a DC freak? Anyone else smoke them as often as I do?
Wil Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Very rarely have the time. Far more likely to go for a half or petit corona.
ramon_cojones Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I prefer dcs when it is hot out and have no agenda or several hours. This occurs mainly in the summertime as a result so not much dc smoking in the winter.
bstarrs Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I've never smoked a dc before but I'll be taking my first plunge this summer. I picked up a box of HQ 08 Lusis last week and I can't wait to spend a couple hours with one in the near future. I've heard nothing but great things about the Lusis so I'm confident I'll enjoy my first DC.
Stalebread Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Rarely. It's not that I don't have the time it's just that I enjoy other sizes a lot more.
bolivr Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Rarely because its a smoke that requires, no demands, a couple hours of concentrating on enjoying it.
Rogers72 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I voted "on Special Occasions" which is also considered "rarely" i guess. I love the Churchill and smoke them often but haven't found a DC that i am crazy about. It's not an issue of time or money for me b/c i will commonly have a churhcill and another cigar back to back which is typically more expensive and time consuming than smoking a single DC. Most of my smoking is done on weekend evenings at home.
duwan Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I don't think I have ever smoked a double corona. I very seldom smoke anything larger than a robusto.
tmac77 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 In the winter time very rarely but during the summer I would average about 1 a week. Moslty Punch, SLR and Lusis.
Mr.T Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I love the DC format and try to get in as many as I can during the summer months. I enjoy a good Hoyo DC with a cup of Joe in the morning or an SLR DC in the evening. I would smoke them more if I had the time.
joeypots Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Poker games, long drives, and sporting events on TV are prime DC times. I used to smoke more of them but have found my way to other sizes. Still, an aged RAG or Lusi is a decadent experience.
khomeinist Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I love a good DC. The Lusitania and the SLR DC are two of my favorite cigars. I generally prefer maravas, lonsdales, and 'lanceros' (Laguito #1, Laguito #2, delicados, etc) but a DC can be quite an enjoyable 2-3 hour journey.
BobKincaid Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I haven't yet had the opportunity to really get into DCs, but I very much want to. I do talk radio and have three magnificent hours per night in which a cigar is a real delight. The thing that makes DCs difficult for so many makes them perfect for me. A two-to-three hour stick would be the perfect accompaniment to my evenings. As such, somewhere around mid-summer, I've promised myself a couple of boxes. I'm looking most closely at the RA Gigantes, Partagas Lusis and VR Don Alejandros. In point of fact, I'd welcome recommendations. On the Czar site, Rob speaks highly of the SLR, but the video review was something much less than a commendation of the same. On the other hand, while the RA Gig is well spoken of, the consensus I've observed in my time here is that the majority seems to prefer the Partagas Lusi. I've seen little comment on the VR Don Alejandro.

Still, an aged RAG or Lusi is a decadent experience. Exactly, for times I don't want to concentrate hard on a smoke but big enough I do activities like lie in the jacuzzi or pool for hours. I don't want to light robusto after robusto so a Lusi is satisfying flavor and enjoyment wise. I've had a couple of well aged SLRs and didn't care much for them. I do find churchills more entertaining than dcs though.
bassman Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 About one a week. Loves SLR & RA DCs, and the 08 Lusis have been very good.
anacostiakat Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Not nearly as often as I would like. I used to smoke these quite often. But I started noticing that they just didnt seem to be the best cigars out of the marcas and went more towards corona gordas, dalias, etc. As I smoke inside if I want the time factor doesnt really apply to me. I guess it is time to revisit some of the boxes that I have resting to see how they are doing.

For the record I've found 08 Lusis and 08 RA Gigantes to be my favorites.
jedipastor Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I love a good big cigar, but very rarely have the time to smoke one. I'm going to try to make the time for a few in the coming months (I'm thinking Sig VI, Boli CG, Monte A, and Liga Privada T52 DC).

I can tell you that I think both the Punch DC and the RAG are smoking good to my tastes and have great potential. I have not had time to taste much else yet. So little time. . .
bc8436 Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I have a 10-pack of Lusitanias and a few sticks of Bolivar CG and RA Gigantes in the humidor, but I rarely have the luxury of a 3-hour window to smoke one. There was a time when the HdM DC was my favorite cigar. However, that particular cigar seems to be going through a down period.
thechenman Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I love a good DC, but unfortunately I only really get to enjoy them on special ocassions, which is to say rarely, right? I wihs I had the 2+ hours to enjoy them on a regular basis, but I don't. These days I find myself smoking mostly corona gordas, and petit coronas. Hopefully summertime will change that. My favorite regular prodcution DCs in order would be: Partagas Lusitanias, Bolivar Corona Gigantes, Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas, Ramon Allones Gigantes, Saint Luis Rey Double Coronas, and the Robaina Don Alejandro.
greenpimp Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Not enough. A great one is irreplaceable. My Hoyos from 09 are really smoking well when I can ever find the time, and I also love SLR DC's and RAGS and Lusitanias....two hours straight is hard to come by but much appreciated when I get it...

I have not had time to taste much else yet. So little time. . . What a coincidence! These were my Friday night and Saturday night choices. I opened a bottle of Greg Norman Australian Sparkling. Just amazing how you can have a cigar a hundred times before, but as soon as you introduce a new pairing, it brings out a whole new characteristic to the cigar. The Greg Norman is 75% Pinot Noir, 41% Chardonnay, and 2% Pinot Meunier(Never heard before). Great toasted bread and semi-dry berry undertone. I'm beginning to get to the point if I intend to drink a bottle of white, I'll reach for sparkling/Champagne over a varietal like Chardonnay, Riesling or Ken's favorite Sauvignon Blanc.
