Well, my trusty PB-207 has finally, completely, irrevocably given up the ghost. The flame nozzle assembly fell completely apart. I know that I'm not alone in saying that this is one of the finest functional lighters ever made. The unfortunate thing is that this was the last of my "pre-child lock" units, a lighter I've been using almost as long as I've been smoking.

So my question to you folks is whether there is another lighter you consider a worthy successor? Are there vendors who can provide the original design unit? I see a few on eBay now and then but $50 is a bit steep. Seem to remember there was a PacRim vendor who sold in pairs. Just wish I could remember who it was. Might any of you gentlemen be able to help a fellow out?

Until I can find a replacement, I'm using a Zippo with insert. Decent function but far smaller fuel reservoir.

Wilkey,

I feel your pain. My PB-207 gave up the ghost about a year ago after a good 9 years of service. I considered that dual-flame Colibri, but heard many bad comments about the brand. Ultimately I went back for another PB-207. Yes it has a child lock, but you can easily turn it all the way around the ignitor button and use it just like the previous model. It's my "Linus blanket" when it comes to my cigar experience, don't know what I'd do without it!

Good luck!

Wilkey,

I still have my 207 which you may or may not recall I had to send back soon after purchase to be fixed. It always works but is a little quirky.

End of last summer, it got "misplaced" at a friend's (got it back some time later), and I bought a blazer cg-001 in the interim. Silver ones

were on sale for under $30, and a silver one I have - and love. Works like a champ, and does not have the child-proof button. I think you

could probably carefully snap the tab from a newer 207.

H2K, if you mean the colibri hybrid, I have one. It's a nice lighter, but the torch flame is definitely not as powerful as a blazer, which makes

itself known outdoors in a breeze, and the fuel capacity is lacking in comprison to the blazer. It's my indoor lighter when I smoke indoors.

Nice to know I'm not alone. :(

I suppose the only knock I had against the PB-207 is that it was fairly sensitive to wind. I have a catalyst-wire jet lighter that is very wind resistant, but unfortunately the fuel reservoir is tiny. That and it's wrapped in leather and as the Dukes of Hazzard logo on it. :D

Hello gents,

I havent owned a blazer but I do have multiple colibris. One single jet and a triple jet I use daily. Any lighter is reliable as long as you use the correct fuel! I've tried xikar butane but it just didnt cut it. I've found Vector fuel to be one of the best burning and most reliable! I like the look of my executive and I've seen some horrible accidents as well (lighting it upside down!!! OUCH!!!) by a friend of course not me. **knock on wood**

Hey Wilkey. It's easy to snap off the child proof lock with a pair of needle nose pliers. Doesn't alter the function a bit.

Sweet! Thanks for the tip, mate.

Xikar Element is the best light I've ever owned. Good value for the money too. It has a cigar punch and a fuel window so you always know how much butane is left. Lifetime warranty too, so if it breaks, send it in for a replacement. Just don't lose it! I lost mine and bought a different Xikar. That's when I realized I should have stuck with the original element.

Hey there amigo, long time no see! Got no tips on the lighter, I just wanted to say hi. I have a pile of zippo's with the inserts. While not a Dupont, I don't cry for days after losing one! -Ray

Hmm,

I don't see the PB-207 online much anymore but there seems to be a similar unit, the BP10. Must be new as I don't see it on the Prince Lighter website. The "advancement" seems to be an integrated cover. I think I prefer the flexibility of the pop-off cover though.

Mark has the PB-207 still listed on his website. You can also try the Blazer EVO. Twin flame, no childlock, and has a large fuel reservoir.

I have the Xikar Element and swear by it. Great Lighter for the money.

Wilkey...the same thing happened to me a few months back. Ended up having to go on eBay and pay $48 + shipping to replace my Clear PB-207 w/o safety lever. I think at this point eBay is probably your best bet, and no doubt you'll likely have to pay up to replace it, but trust me...it was worth every penny.

Agreed...I prefer the 207 to the Little Buddy as the 207 has the removeable cap.

another vote for the Xikar element. Fires everytime with a powerful dual flame.

That is a nice looking lighter. My only gripe with multijet torches is that they seem to tear through the butane. I've got a bunch of lighters scattered around my smoking locations (back patio, garage, front porch) and the triple-jet seems to need refilling after every 4 or 5 cigars. Granted, I do tend to "touch up" but still...Vector ain't cheap.

I found them here from $34. Hope it helps and good luck. I just goog the mod # and go to the shopping tab

Yup. Gonna have to go looking some more. Thanks for the link! I do worry a bit about whether the unit is actually the one without the child lock.

Well, off to hit the 'Bay.

hi Wilkey- with your endorsement I bought one with the child-proof tab on it. I used a paper clip to push out the hinge pin of the tab and it works like a charm. I put the hinge pin back in place so it didn't look so cheesy.

Wow, scary! I once spoke of a torch flame lighter I had where the flame didn't go out and I had to use pliers to get it off. Then had one of those NIBO offshoots where the butane leaked out. The Lord was with me in that I hadn't tried to light it directly after filling it. I know mine were probably no names gotten at the regular department stores. But if you guys' name brand lighters went bad...Whoa! :surprised::lookaround:
