I don't like to think of myself as being addicted to anything, despite my two coffees per day and keen enjoyment of cigars from time to time. And wine, home brewed beer, etc, etc. It seems that I'm always thinking about great cigars to try and different cigars for each occasion, etc. But I don't often feel that this interest in cigars is any sort of addiction.

However, what do you do when you feel nicotine bags under your eyes and the predilection to maim even the most moderately annoying passers-by? I'm not even sure it has to do with nicotine, really. The longest winter in recorded history might have something to do with pervasive, widespread sociopathic tendencies being observed around my town. Or it could be sleep deprivation from my 5 month old son preparing to cut his first tooth. But truthfully, I'd love to have a decent cigar in the evening sunshine, but in large part due to the crappy weather, they are spaced out just so, and I can't help but feel frustrated that my habit is keeping me in continual nicotine purgatory.

What I wouldn't give for a Partagas Chico! Or a Juan Lopez robusto. Or a Siglo IV tubo. Or a place to live where it's warm enough to indulge whenever I'd like.

Ken calls us seal bashers. Think how you'd be, given the circumstances!

I bought myself a portable ice shack and a propane heater. Solved my problem. Even if it's -30c it is t-shirt weather inside the clam! :)

That is brilliant. How much extra for the personal chef?

Ha! I'd loves to see the neighbors reaction to a French maid walking out to a windowless blue shack in the dead of winter.

In the winter, I just smoke in the car. When I'm driving and have the extra time, I usually just take a few detours on some quiet country roads, listen to the radio and enjoy my smoke. I even keep a small notebook in the glove box in so I can jot down some notes at stoplights and such if any particular cigar inspires me to write up a review.

*I go days at a time between smokes. Sometimes weeks. Depends on mood, circumstance, opportunity, or just don't care to go thru the "rituals" associated with our outstanding diversion! If something else happens to capture my fancy (which once happened for a 3 year stint), then the cigars will just have to wait. Or better still - age!

I have to say...this winter has been miserable for me here as well in the northeast. I tend to get out more in the winter to smoke on my porch, but it has been too damn cold and the winter too damn long. I don't miss the nicotine per se...just the relaxation and the luxuriant smoke.

Atchbo,

I suggest we all go visit ChanceSchmerrs in Victoria until the rest of this frozen country warms up...

What's ChanceSchmerrs?

I know there's a cigar club in Calgary where you can pay to become a member and smoke indoors (downtown Calgary) at Epicure, but I can't bring myself to shell out the $1500/year in dues. It sounded like an interesting deal though... that price included a monthly cigar evening with product included, and the guy (Jason, I think), set up themed comparisons, a few rare cigars, etc.

So far, I'm making due with the garage (the clam's got me beat). But if there are any others from southern Alberta on this forum, maybe we could get together and celebrate the warmer weather with a cigar somewhere.

I don't see any footprints. How long have you been in there?

Great photo from Winterpeg, by the way.

Try not to think about it. Divert oneself to another hobby, say rigging up a top of the line air purifier in the basement. Go up to Fort McMurray for a while, and learn to better appreciate the occasional chinook in southern Alberta.

What's wrong with that ? Just say that it's a cultural exchange program in

the preservation of corporal heat . :P:D

It will be good for you and the environment. B)

Can we get a pic of the inside? Love to see what it's like in there.

Love the artificial Igloo!

I mostly gave up cigars when I was diagnosed a year ago. Maybe I have smoked 10 since. Unlike cigarettes, there is no physical addiction. For me, cigar smoking was a pleasant diversion while I enjoyed a TV sports event or some time with good friends. That doesn't mean that I don't miss it from time to time. I just don't ever have any kind of physical/emotional craving as I did when giving up cigarettes.

Ha I would be the first to suggest a squadron of french maids to my windowless blue hut. I'm just considering the less environmentally friendly folk who may take issue. :)
