Yep, nothing like Australian hospitality!

i hardly recognised myself or my place???

1867, not 1876, but five or six bottles will do that to you.

and to be fair, it is the carpet python that gets surly if you unwrap him from his fave bottles (pink fizz in case you are wondering - can snakes be ***?). brown snakes are always surly.

Plenty of whites off the coast of California and Florida. If you really have a death wish, swim with a saltie! :D

I have one question...how the hell do I get your job, Ken?

Geeesh, they've got quite the trip going on, with all the different places they've visited. They said they'd love to do what Ken does, but I'm interested to know the job that allows you to travel the world for 6 months or so, and who's paying for that! Very envious of the trip they're enjoying - sounds like an amazing time, and I wish I was able to do that right now with my Mrs.

Very cool nonetheless, and even cooler is the welcome that they were offered by the Czar's crew. Kudos to all.

Very cool blog. Why does Australia have to be so far away!? :o . I'd love to go, but a 23 hour flight from Toronto over the Pacific is too much for me to bear. Bring back the Concorde!!!

Looks like a wonderful trip. I'd love to be able to get away from the grinds of daily life for a few months (weeks even) and just travel to places I want to see.

It isn't so bad we travel longer than that , try 30 hours to Europe but the good thing about flights from the US are they are all night flights which mean you sleep most of the flight which is great

Got home after 15 hour flight from SF and arrive fresh and alert after 8 solid hours sleep :stir:

That drives me nuts...I can't even fall asleep if I'm lying down in my own damn bed!

I did the flight from L.A. to Sydney with a friend about 10 years back, and as Murphy's Law would have it some idiot drove one of the baggage buggies into the 747 bound for Melbourne so they put everyone from that flight onto ours. Imagine a 15 hour flight as full as the plane could possibly be, you're in a middle seat, and on a good night lying in your own bed it takes you 2 hours to fall asleep. Hell. I've unwittingly been on a *** date (not that there's anything wrong with that), and I would choose to re-live that experience 100 times before getting on that flight again.

Loved Australia though!

be prepared to accept a massive pay cut in whatever you are doing now!

As much money as I spend on booze and cigars, it might be a wash.

well the trip has been one hell of an adventure! currently wrapping it up with 5 weeks in the camper around NZ- so far its amazing. Currently we are at Franz Josef.

As for how we managed to get the trip done- just save the money and say screw it and go. There were heaps of good reasons not to go when we did- but we just said the hell with it.

It hasnt been without consequences though- I havent bought a box of cigars in what seems like forever! I'll have to do something about that when we get back.

Glad you all find our misadventures entertaining! I'm trying to convince Missi to use her English degree and publish this when we get back- we will see.

O and Ken- so thats why the Sparking Shiraz was unavailable! Hilarious.
