LCM860 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Having just joined here recently, I thought this might be a good post to start with. I've generally been a shorter stick kind of guy, but recently, due to my office being smoke friendly, I find I can have time to enjoy a great Churchill or Double Corona. So I thought I'd ask for recommendations. On the flavor front, I'll just say my top 3 are HdM Epicure #2 Siglo III Monte Edmundo just to give an idea of where my taste is. I'm not a big fan of heavily spicy or peppery sticks. I look forward to seeing what's recommended.
Habanakane21 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 HDM Double corona are good. I love the bolivar gigantes and ramon allones gigantes too.
terrantheman Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 To me I can't complain about any of the Churchill and DC's... Love Sir Winnies, HDM DC, BCG, Cohiba Esp, RAG, VR Don Alejandro, Partagas Lusi yeah they're great when they're all on.
maverickdrinker Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 another vote for bolivar gigantes and ramon allones gigantes
perfectform Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 If I had to choose, it would be the Esplendido and the Lusitania.
ajgagnon Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 +1 for the sampler. I'd love to try the SLRDC... they sound magical.
mash Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 No mention of the Punch DC yet, but when they have a few years on them they're great.
anacostiakat Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Used to be a huge DC and Churchie smoker. Over the past few years I have gotten away from them due to what I felt was a blandness. They just seemed to lose their umph for me. All of the aged stock have been great. Through last year I have enjoyed the Estupendo, RAG and Punch DC from more recent/current production which I am hoping spreads to my other favorites which have all been mentioned here. Lusi's, Sir Winnie, BCG, SLR DC, Don Alejandro, etc.
CanuckSARTech Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Cheers and welcome. Based on your mentions (longer sticks, brand/flavour likes so far), I'd recommend to give the Montecristo Especial, the Trinidad Fundadore, and the LGC MdO No. 2 (and/or Tainos) all a try.
ksblazer Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Churchill: H. Upmann Sir Winston Double Corona: SLR DC While I have enjoyed others, these are my favorite in each size.
cigcars Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 *The Hoyo De Monterrey Double Coronas have just been too bland and tasteless to date, in my humble view. Of the best BEST Churchill and Dbl Coronas I've sampled are the Sir Winston, Saint Luis Rey Churchill and the Ramon Allones Gigantes!
Rogers72 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I think in the past few years, my favorites have been the Partagas Lusitanias and H. Upmann Sir Winston. Sir Winston by 2 1/2 lengths though.
joeypots Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Best? I like the BCG and the RAG, have a good supply of each and love the way the cigars age as time passes.
LCM860 Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks to everyone. Seems the best way to go about it is to get a sampler of a couple of each that everyone has recommended. It's really cool to have so many people willing to offer opinions.
thechenman Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Partagas Lusitania, Hoyo De Monterrey Double Corona, Bolivar Corona Gigante, H. Upmann Sir Winston, Cohiba Esplendido, Saint Luis Rey Double Corona...you can't go wrong with any of these babies...
