chuck1rar Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 An earthquake just hit off the Northern Japanese Coast. Registered as a 8 point something on a western scale. I was in my apartment on the 40FL in Osaka which is a fair way from the epicenter and thought the building was going down. Never felt one this big in Japan for the last 15yrs.. But got to say the structural engineering of this building is A+, it was swaying atleast a meter to the left and right. Anyway the tsunami has hit in the North and seeing images on the news near Sendai, is an awesome tsunami. The height is not so high but the amount of water is amazing. Am sure all in the west will eventually see all the local video from helicopters in the area. Just hope the Govt reacts better than they did last time there was a natural disaster..
OZCUBAN Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Hope everything is ok with you and everyone, safe safe our thoughts are with you Cheers OZ
cigcars Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 *Yes, I was in bed listening to the evening news on radio and had to get up. There is also tsunami warning for Hawaii as well and police are evacuating. The prayers of all the world are with you there in Osaka and nearby areas. Please stay safe and careful. All our love to you
davidl Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Our prayers are with you. I hope the damage is minimal, and trust the Japanese gov to react the best possible way.
MIKA27 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 It's really bad news! The magnitude is 8.9 with 8 metre waves travelling at 800kph and these are but the beginning of more waves to come. Russia, Hawaii, Phillipines, Taiwan etc are all at risk with 6 meter waves en route. Just watched footage of a Bridge with vehicles driving and the waves just took over!!
yossie Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 My city is as usual but Scenes from TV are extremely serious....
traded Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 My goodness. I am so so sorry for the affected people. I watched some of the video and couldn't help but cry at the helplessness I feel. I am thinking of all of you guys out there. Stay safe and strong. David
Warren Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 It's good to know Chuck and Yossie are ok. Keep safe guys.
Nino Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 A great tragedy from what I'm following on tv. Terrible images. From my visits to Japan I know how well prepared, disciplined and resilient Japan is in such tragedies. My prayers go out to all people affected and I am happy my friends in Tokyo are OK.
Puros Y Vino Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I can't believe some of the footage I'm seeing. Just terrible. There's tsunami warnings on the West coast of Canada as a result too. Thought I'm sure the waves will have subsided by then. Let's hope the death toll isn't too dire and that they can recover from this. On the radio they were talking to people who work/live in high rises there and they say the buildings performed like champs. Though 20+ aftershocks are still nervewracking.
BatFastard Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 THoughts and prayers are with everyone in Japan!! Wishing everyone the best. Stay safe.
greenpimp Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 They're evecuating low lying beach communities here, hope it passes. Hope more than anything that the worst is over for Japan and recovery is quick.
BossHogg Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Thoughts and prayers sent for the people of Japan.
thechenman Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Wow this is simply horrible. Hope the damage and loss of life will be as minimal as possible. What is with all these natural disasters this year, especially in the Pacific region with Australia and now Japan?
laficion Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 It's a real disaster, hope everyone will stay as safe as possible. Take care.
bc8436 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Just a devastating disaster. The images on TV are terrible, hopefully all the FOH'ers are ok.
JMH Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Terrible. I hope things go as well as they can from this point.
slee87 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I been watching watching videos of the disaster and man its scary. My prayers go out to my fellow asian.
ashen Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Just sent in a donation to the Red Cross... maybe it will help in some small way. Being in the 6.9 quake that lasted 15-20 seconds in the Bay Area was scary enough; an 8.9 quake for 2 minutes and 7 seconds must have been absolutely terrifying.
El Presidente Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 What a tragedy. The world could use a break right now. To our friends in Japan, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
CanuckSARTech Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Breathtaking and heartbreaking. Devastating to see the loss of life and waterborne devastation. Best wishes and thoughts for all those affected.
jerseyjay Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Disaster indeed. Thoughts and prayers are with people of Japan.
