Habanakane21 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Anyone going after these??? I'm thinking they're going to cost as much as the Cohiba Reserva...ouch. The first Gran Reserva with the Montecristo brand, penciled in by many as habano’s taste benchmark, coming in the successful Montecristo No. 2 vitola, is quite a major development in this 13th Festival Manufactured by master rollers at the H. Upmann cigar factory, with leaves from the 2005 harvest picked up from the finest Vuelta Abajo plantations, featuring exquisite farming selection, and a prolonged and thorough natural aging process under the best conditions. All requirements in the preservation of raw materials on the field and in the factory, coupled with the best manufacturing process, are the underpinnings of the exclusive Gran Reserva concept for Habanos S.A. products in which leaves that have endured a long and thorough aging process for at least five years are used. “Paying homage to this brand with the launch of a Gran Reserva is a special opportunity for our aficionados, an opportunity that demands from us maximum care and exclusiveness in terms of raw materials and the making process. This speaks volumes of habanos’ one-and-only character as a protected denomination of origin and stands for a recognition to this undisputed token of Cuba’s tobacco industry,” says Jose Miguel Barzaga Maceo, the young director of the H. Upmann factory where these Montecristos are made. The Gran Reserva Montecristo No. 2 Cosecha 2005 (ring gauge 52 x 152mm long) is a unique, extremely reduced production of barely 5,000 numbered cases containing 15 units apiece that “within the brand’s own patterns, it offers a more intense enjoyment. And thanks to this much pampering and care all its taste and aromatic notes are more roundly perceived,” Barzaga goes on to say. This is a complete habano full of personality and character that guarantees a pleasant and peaceful smoking session, elegantly bundled up with a thin wrapper, decked out with the brand’s band and the Gran Reserva ring, and packed in beautiful black lacquered wooden boxes containing 15 units each. Its world debut has been scheduled for the closing ceremony of the 13th Habano Festival, dedicated to paying tribute to this brand and this time around marked by the tasting of the new product –the best of the best from Montecristo- and it will be matched with a select array of rums, as well as the finest Cuban cuisine and culture. New Montecristo Gran Reserva Market vitola: Montecristo No. 2 Gran Reserva Cosecha 2005 Factory vitola: Pirámides Sizes:Ring gauge 52 x 156mm long Presentation: 5,000 individually numbered exclusive cases containing 15 units each.
Colt45 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Anyone going after these??? I more than likely will not.
Habanakane21 Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 I more than likely will not. If they're as good as the Cohiba Reserva...I'm passing too!! ha ha. I had the chance to try 2 Reserva's and for the money....it wasn't worth it. IMHO
Ryan Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I smoked a Cohiba 1966 on Friday, too wet and too young, got vey strong too. I have a Monte GR but haven't smoked it yet. Great festival week by the way. Rob was missed.

Dbone Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I am excited for this release. Speaking for myself, between a Cohiba or Monte GReserva I think I'd gravitate more to the Monte. If these score like last years Cohiba release I actually may be interested in a couple singles. A 100 point Monte #2 there's not much better in the world.
edameff Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Any guesses on the cost of a box, I assume we will have to wait until later this year to find out.
Lotusguy Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I can only dream that they are more affordable than the Cohiba GR. Someone threw a number of ~50 Euro/ea for the Cohiba 1966 around on another forum - that does not bode well for my being able to afford either one
Ryan Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Very pleased to hear that you had a great week at the festival Andy and hope that you can find a little time to post some photos Cheers l'ami. I will get photos up over the next 24 hours Guy, I slept until 1pm today and I have a lot to organise tonight but I'll get it done.
josie67 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Oh hell yes I'll be all over these when they come out. I was at the festival, and they were by far the best cigars I smoked there. Bet they will command a super premium
traded Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I would love to split with 4 others to have a couple on hand. I have 3 of the Cohiba resting for super special occasions and these would be similarly luxurious/over priced, but sometimes I wonder what we work so hard for if not absurdly proper cigars. Maybe some of my socal BOTL's will want to split a box. best, d
CBL Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Sexy looking cigars! Be sure to let us know how they taste!
mazolaman Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 OOhh look, another premium cigar! Can't help but feel we're being had. Or to put it realistically, two Monte gran reserva,or a box of something old fashioned....not a hard choice.
bc8436 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Guess I'm in the minority but I'll be trying to hunt down a box or two of these if possible.
Rogers72 Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Like the Cohiba Gran Reservas and Behikes, these will sadly be priced well above what I am willing to spend on a cigar right now.
bassman Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Like the Cohiba Gran Reservas and Behikes, these will sadly be priced well above what I am willing to spend on a cigar right now. Totally agree. So much good regular production out there. I've smoked a few MC#4 Reservas. Very good cigars, but I'll take a PSP box of MC#4s & keep the change!
Holysmokes Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 How much were the boxes of cohiba Grand reserva going for? And were they boxes of 10? Also, what are some of you estimates for the monte 2 grand Reserva?
Lotusguy Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 How much were the boxes of cohiba Grand reserva going for? And were they boxes of 10?Also, what are some of you estimates for the monte 2 grand Reserva? AFAIK, the CGR went for as low as $1500. There are 15 per box. The MGR showed up on an Italian price list at 720 Euro for a box of 15 - that includes whatever Taxes are applicable in Italy http://www.diademaspa.it/images/moduli_sca..._marzo_2011.pdf Hope this helps!
Holysmokes Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 WOW!!!! That's 100$ per stick. Insane!!! I won't be trying to find some. I would rather buy 6 boxes instead. They can't be THAT good can they?

Yoruba Hacker Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Guess I'm in the minority but I'll be trying to hunt down a box or two of these if possible. Maybe you're in the minority, but you're not alone! I'm in for a couple as well.

I'm confused at the math. That pricelist had them @720 Euro. That's a hair north or south of $1000 US/CDN, which is $66 per. If you're talking The CGR, yes, they are that good, IMVHO.
