El Presidente Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I think when you start to enjoy the Romeo y Julieta Cazadores as your morning cigar you have reached a significant point in your cigar journey They really have been excellent.........brutal.....but excellent.

Impressive. Maybe they're not as strong as people say or your just super human.
olotti Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Prez I don't know you may not be that tough I'm smokin one right now from an HQ box and the beginning is pretty med bodied. Now I did just get these a week ago so I know the cigars have not settled but I've been dyin to try one and this post just egged me on. I'll keep updating as I smoke but so far med bodied, rich tobacco, a little green but we'll see how it evolves, I did however get a couple puffs of a real cherry sweetness in the beginning that were real nice. I'd love to see more of that mixed with the tobacco and a little more oomph.
olotti Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Ok nearing the end of the 1st third and the body has picked up, it's def now a med-full bodied smoke. Not alot of spice through the nose but a heavy smoke and mouthfeel. Mostly I get that rich, sweet, toasty tobacco with a heavy bodied feel to it, really hits ya in the guy. Very enjoyable but as a morning smoke ah not for me not yet anyway. We'll see how it develops

Others such as some from the box I am working through are STRONG with a capital S.

Of the fiver I bought last year some were full of balance and flavor and others were just pure nic bombs, but I loved those too.
olotti Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Nearing the end of the second third the body is at it's peak, it truly is a full bodied smoke and hits ya in the gut, barely any spice through the nose. To me it's just very rich tobacco with some hints of sweetness, can't really say if it's a vanilla or sugarcane but it just hits the front end before the real core of rich tobacco strikes. It's a very, very, satisfying smoke and it leaves a real rich, velvety mouthfeel. Yum. I love the size too. This is a cigar which you could smoke one of or smoke at the end of a day after smoking a bunch and you'll walk away very satisfyed at the end. We'll see what the last third does.
olotti Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Final third is upon us, well me anyway and it's held true. Getting a little darker but still tasty, I'll slow down the smoking so as not to overheat it but it's still enjoyable. As far as a rating goes my gut wants to give it a 92-93 because I love cigars of this size that deliver so much satisfatction but I'll dial it down to a 89-90 with much potential. If it never changed I'd be totally satisfied so if it really improves with a little more sweetness and keeps all the richness and body I'd give it a 92-93 every day of the week. I also just got these a week ago so I can't wait to see what happens in 3 weeks when they've settled a bit. I'm betting more of the same but maybe even more powerful with more balance and sweetness. I bet this would pair very well with Zacapa 23yr, bringing out more of the sweetness. Can't wait, gotta get more Zacapa. This was fun and hopefully what the Live Forum will be like.

If that's the case, then it's time again to put a few boxes up in the lockers. Just tell me they're 90% as good as the late 2005-early 2006's and I'll have a check in the mail. Wilkey
asmith Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I thought this was going to be about some interesting end game moves for chess invloving cigars, but it was just about cigars.

Others such as some from the box I am working through are STRONG with a capital S. I have never had a strong one! I have owned a few boxes but RyJ's in general have not really been my rice bowl. With Habanos consistency being that of chocolate chip ice cream it is a wonder that many of us can agree on a cigar at all!
PigFish Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 On a more sober note. I believe the ultimate end game for the Habanos smoker is the realization about several facets of CC's. One: Thin ring cigars are the best of them. Two: The more popular the cigar, often the less reliable it is. Three: Price performance has no relation to taste performance. Four: a point about limited production... I will save for a new thread! Five: The guys that run H SA et al are clueless about what makes a good cigar. ... I could go on, but what good would that do? -Piggy
Ken Gargett Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Fried eggs and hot salsa. Doesn't everyone? i'm actually quite intrigued by this. is this considered odd? would never occur to me not to put tabasco or something like that on brekkie eggs or whatever.

You need to try Cholula! That is if you run out of Blairs Death!!! I put hot sauce on just about everything. Must be why I can't taste Dominican cigars! Good to see you Ken. Rob thinks I should design your next business card! -Piggy

Pure acid, melt your face sauce. And I'm no gringo! Seriously one bottle of this stuff can last you a year!

I think it is quite common. I know I do it, and several guys in my office as well. What about Huevos Rancheros. Eggs...salsa...so we know a good potion of Central America does this as well.

Woohee...it is some great stuff. Until your mouth goes numb.
matthew261 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I can see these being a morning cigar. There is a very pleasant cherry flavor throughout for me. The only cigar I've tried that I just could not see myself smoking in the a.m. is the Boli Corona Extra...WOW that's a meaty cigar!
