Just put this up on my blog and thought I'd share. Perhaps Hawko can replace Winston in the FOH logo Rob?

...Just out of curiosity, I tuned in to Channel Ten last night to watch the Hawke telemovie. For international readers and Gen Ys who may not know, Bob Hawke was Australia's Prime Minister from 1983-1991. He was Australia's second longest serving Labor Prime Minister and a former Australian Council of Trade Unions President. Although based on a somewhat biased Blanche D'Alpuget biography (Blanche is Bob's second wife) and not giving poor old Hazel (Bob's first wife) a decent run, the movie was bearable ...just. However, I was of course more interested in Bob's cigar consumption and its portrayal in the movie...

Had no idea he smokes stogies! Really really want to know what he does smoke though! Checked on the internet. Couldn't find any reference to brands/countries.

go with the monkey, for the sake of whatever divinity flicks your switch but the day hawke appears on the logo, is my last day on the forum.

i would imagine he shares about as much respect here as say richard nixon in the states or stalin in russia.

no matter how low one's opinion of churchill, spare me any comparison.

there was always considerable speculation that he might not have been as off the wagon as he claimed and that he and some of the other alp powerbrokers like richo often enjoyed cigars. i would suspect that he would have smoked the good stuff.

i should add that the above doesn't mean for a minite that i equate nixon to stalin in their actions - just that there is not a lot of love or respect, from an outsider's view.

i should also add, lest anyone think i have a particular anti-bias towards hawke, that i would feel exactly the same if we were talking fraser, the current pm, abbott etc etc.

Cigars is about the only thing they have in common...

I remember reading an article about Hawke where he spoke briefly about cigars and was pictured smoking what I recall was a monte 4. Might have been a golf magazine? Will try and track it down...

Thanks for the comment Ken, only comparison I was making that he's a former Aussie politician who smokes cigars. Hawke may just have as much luck as our dear taxation and plain packaging ex-PM K Rudd for a run on the FOH logo
