nivanov Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 G'day........ I'm a bit stumped, I have seen only empty boxes of this brand, however here is a full sealed box, presumed 1950's This vitola seems to have morphed into the Quintero marca...........any other information would be appreciated such as ........are they machine made and so forth.......... Looking forward to the info....thanks! I have some pictures to upload
reg Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 no idea but very cool! beautiful stickers. reminds me to go take pictures of a box i found the other day
thechenman Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Sorry can't help you, but those are some great looking boxes...love the stickers too. Thanks for sharing. Hope you get the answers you are looking for. A lot of knowledgeable BOTLs on FOH. Apparently, I'm not one of them.
android Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Interesting boxes that you have there...can't wait to see what Trevor digs ip on these.
cgarner Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 wow, what a nice looking box and stickers. I would love to find a box with so much history attached to it. Unfortunately I know nothing of that brand, so I can't be of any service to you.
Colt45 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 According to Guy, El Triunfador were produced in the Quintero factory. Here's a link with the brief history: Link
Habanos2000 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 What are your plans? Are you going to smoke them or try to sell them? I know the box is sealed, but I'm curious as to their condition and how they look. Claro cigars from the 50's are quite a throw back.
nivanov Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Yes, these were produced in Cienfuegos and the manufacturer was Augustin Quintero. In 1924 the QUINTERO brand was established in the town of Cienfuegos by Augustin Quintero. My thinking is that it was another vitola produced by the same factory, perhaps Augustin was even alive when these were made. The size on these is "cremas del triunfador" and if anything can be deduced by sheer name alone as to where on the price scale they were I would probably say "cremas" or "the cream" would not be on the low end............interesting name, could be loosely translated as "cream of victory"...........to the victorious "triunfador" go these cream of the crop cigars. Could the "triunfador" be El Señor Commandante Castro? I'm tempted to crack these open.............maybe there's a stash of Batista gold inside! Nah! probably just .........smells .............................like.....................victory!
Jimmy2 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I remember you from the other site and I always wondered where the hell do you find these gems !!! When I see them I think of all the cigars my family members might have smoked them as they were very BIG smokers of Cuban cigars a lot of my family are passed on and so their knowledge on the cigars you deal in.Almost 70 + years and a handfull of them were part of the pre Castro days with the casinos and running them in one way or the other if you know what i mean. Would love to get a mixed handfull someday just for the story telling with people intrested in hearing it. I love the history on these types of cigars...
Van55 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Havana Cigars, Third Edition lists some 1750 cigar brands that were known to have been produced in Cuba between 1810 and 1960. One of them is Triunfador. A separate one is Quintero y Hno (which marca continued to be produced after the nationalization of the Cuban cigar industry.) On page 143-44 of the Cyclopedia, Perelman lists three sources for the list. One of them might have further information on the Triunfador brand and be readily available: Havana Cigars 1817-1960 by Enzo Infante (Neptune City, N.J. T.F.H. Publications 1997)
nivanov Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Does anyone have any Cuban connections, can anyone call someone on the island?
cigarros Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I have some old bands in my collection with this name but I have no info more than Van55 have posted(( Very interesting boxes! Thanks for sharing! Good luck!
Buch0 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Does anyone have any Cuban connections, can anyone call someone on the island? Rob is heading over there as we speak I think, there is a thread with questions we have posted for him to ask the people he plans to rendezvous with, maybe post a question about these in there. Rob himself may even know about them. Very interested to see how they look or what they smoke like though, I am pretty sure if I had a box of these stashed away I couldn't resist the temptation to try one. Anyone know what the band looks like on these?

nivanov Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Thanks, for the info, I'm sure that Rob will be able to get the details from the old timers on the island, case closed, or at least it will be when Rob returns.... My intention is to open these and peek inside ..............I think the information should be shared....
cigarros Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Didn't see that post, can you post a picture of the band cigarros? Ok! Tomorrow, here in St-Petes (RU) deep night 2:25 AM. As I remember one band with portrait of funny man... Till morning! Cheers!

samb Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Wish I could help you out... They look really cool!
mkz Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Come on! Open the box and smoke one! Thats what they were made for...
nivanov Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 Well..........the box has been opened and above you will find the Youtube link for it. Please excuse the poor editing (none), the warts, freckles, hairy arms, etc
nivanov Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 That was my first video youtube upload and it took most of 3 1/2 hours to get it done! Thanks for the nice feedback! I was amazed at the shade of the leaf I expected lighter but these are definitely not "claro", perhaps the classification of the wrapper shade changed sometime in the 1960's ......
LiLo Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Wow really cool! this is the El triunfador name that pete johnson of Tatuaje now owns!
