jfury76 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Remarkable state of preservation is evident from the video. Great color as well--at least colorado claro from what I could see. Hope they smoke as well as they look.
cgarner Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Are these for sale? haha I was thinking the same thing. However, I'm sure they are out of my price range.
DrunkenMonkey Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 That's just fantastic. What an incredible example. I don't want to pry, so feel free to ignore this question, but I'd love to hear the story of how you acquired them, etc. Just beautiful! You really MUST smoke one and tell us about it.
laficion Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Nick, Those are absolutely fantastic looking , thank you so much for sharing this with us here at FOH What would be interesting to know is, how many different bands were in the brand. Pete Johnson has just come out with his El Triunfador but with a completely different band. he said that it's a copy of the original band but it is known that at the time, every brand had a different band for each vitola under the brand name. Nick, you have my e-mail, please feel free to abuse
Tampa1257 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 It is my pure speculation that due to the cigars being nearly 60 years old, that the Claro color may be discolored now due to the oils in the tobacco coming out to the wrapper. I was somewhat surprised that the cello did not appear stained like other pre-embargo cello cigars I have seen. As far as taste, I would not be a bit surprised if they did not display a tea like essence. That has been the predominate flavor that I have noticed when smoking other pre-embargo Havanas.
nivanov Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 I agree with the tea like essence.......particularly when you get "lost" smoking the cigar!
Buch0 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Cheers for the footage mate. Did you expect the cigars to be wrapped in that plastic? I don't have much experience with vintage cigars, were they all packaged like that back in those days or was it just that brand? Very interested to see if Tampa is correct in saying they might have a tea like taste, one would think this would be quite pleasant if that is indeed the case. A soft taste/aroma of tea coincides well with the subtle history of the cigar itself, making for a quite unique experience I would imagine.
nivanov Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 Tobacco ages well ..if it stored in dry conditions, not sweltering heat, you truly get the essence of the tobacco plant and that's what Chuck was referring to, when you have 60 year old tobacco it is another flavor altogether, it seems as all of the flavors are easier to pick up on the palate because of the reduced nicotine levels which tends to overpower everything except for those strong flavors that you hear mentioned................tastes like earth, tastes like leather, tastes like crap...LOL
Habanos2000 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I really enjoyed that video undressing of the box. thanks. Is a review in the making?
purosdave Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Your passion for cigars really comes through in the video. I was watching with anticipation and my emotions closely mimicked yours until we got to the cigars. I guess the added sensation of touch and aroma are really needed first person to feel the satisfaction once unveiled. I'm looking forward to reading what you have to share if and when you learn more about these cigars!
