Jesuscookies Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Did cohiba ever put out a piramde as a regular release. I.E. no second band, no EL, no RE. I ask because I ran across a box from a trusted vendor, and have never seen them before. They were not in their original box, so I could not tell from that. They had a Cohiba band, but no second band. Any info is greatly appreciated.
brutusthebuckeye Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Heyzue...im kinda sketchy on the details...but there "may" have been some Piramdes in that Special Collection Humi(30 Cigars)that came out a few years ago...again not 100%sure but i remeber this being discussed somewhere but can't remeber(go figure)burnt!!!!!
android Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 As regular production, no.Wilkey I'm with Wilkey on that...no regular production.
Jesuscookies Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 As regular production, no.Wilkey This vendor gets a lot of great odd ball stuff that is not normally available in large quantities, but I have never seen any single banded Cohiba pirmades before. Sucks if it is counterfiet, as I would be suspect of buying anything else from him.

I bought these from a shoe-shine boy at the cruise ship terminal in mexico, and he bought them from the swiss - they have to be legit!

LateApex Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Single banded Cohiba Piramides were/are available as part of the Habanos Selección Pirámide 5 pack. Is this the size you are thinking of?

Is this the size you are thinking of? actually that is true but why would someone pull them out one by one to sell. that hardly seems to make sense (and i guess is not regular production in any event). from my recollection, the cohiba was the pick of those pyramides though it was still bog average. some of the others made cuaba's look good. you'd be better off with fakes than that five pack.

This was a five brand variety pack correct? If so, I do not think this is where they are from. However Ken, it would make sense as these cigars are in the USA. Most of the cigar shops sell them in singles.
El Presidente Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Outside of the 30 Seleccion Reserva..No. ken is right in that they also had two bands. Ask your vendor straight out. You will know if he is BS you.
ATGroom Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 According to Trev's site there's 15 single banded Pyramids in the Guayasamin II Humidor and five in the Siglo XXI... oddball enough?
Ken Gargett Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Here's the release I had in mind yes, remember them. i found them hugely disappointing. the robusto's were a little better though not much.
LiLo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Sounds very very suspect to me because A. its very doubtful these are the cigars from the Guayasamin II Humidor or Siglo Millennium Humidor and B. I doubt they would be splitting up the Habano selection piramide 5 packs. I don't know of there being another time they had a cohiba piramide without a second band. I would stay away from this purchase.
LiLo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Actually the 35th anni humidor piramide only has one band, but that's obviously a different band altogether.
SethG Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I feel like I'm misreading the first post because you said they're still in the original box, isn't that the real question rather than the band, describe the box.

Nah, i think he said they were not in the original box. Thats why all he has to go on is the band and cigar. i guess a photo would help the situation.

I reckon that if you do a search for "Cohiba" in the Suspect Cigar Forum you should find a few decent analyses of fakes relating to bands, wrappers etc. With that knowledge, you could probably go back to your vendor and simply determine whether they're real or not just by looking at them. Even if they're exceptionally good fakes..
thechenman Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 If there is any question to the autheticty of the cigar in question, you will likely be doing yourself a favor by just walking away from the purchase.

I have a beautiful collect of cigars that were 'gifted' to me after folks learned I like a 'good' cuban. I smile and say thanks for the gift - "I'll save it for a special occasion'. I'm proud to show off my collection! Heading to Baja next month to see if I can bring home a few more gems. "Um, excuse me - the glass on this box of cohibas is frosted - is this a special edition box?"

There are single banded Cohiba Piramides from jars and humidors but if you find these outside of their original packaging in certain parts of the world I would highly doubt their legitimacy. I have found many such cigars "here and there" and I would bet my ass they were frauds regardless the price. The Habanos 2000, 30 year and 35 year were huge fraud models and they would have specialty but no second bands. I have some great fraud samples around here somewhere, I even bought some singles at nominal costs just for the sake of exposure. What you have come across are very likely knockoffs. Best, Ray
