Kangaroo495
This really demonstrates the global reach the FOH and Czar's and the authority and respect it commands. I'm an Aussie living in Moscow, Russia. Have been here for 4 years (somewhat of a self-imposed exile), and stumbled onto the FOH website earlier this year. Here I got to know the user Cigarros, who turns out to be a cigar enthusiast from St. Petersburg. After some exchanges on PM, we got the chance to meet up yesterday for a smoke. But not just an ordinary smoke... I doubt you FOHers would know this, but Cigarros (Dmitry) is somewhat of a cigar celebrity in Russia, and especially in his home town of St. Petersburg. His website is well known among Russian cigar enthusiasts, he also writes articles for local cigar journals and runs some really awesome cigar tasting evenings. I would call him somewhat of a cigar crusader in Russia, as people generally have no idea about cigars in this country, and the stock which is imported and sold here is either fake, or far below par. Dmitry's life goal is to change this. Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend one of his cigar tastings which take place in Moscow occassionally. The cigar for the tasting was a Macanudo The drink we were tasting was Ron Santiago 7years. The whole things was basically a cigar show. First we were introduced to the cigar, it's history etc. Then the Rum. While tasting, we were treated to pirate stories (which was the theme of the evening). Dmitry is somewhat of a human wikipedia, so the stories were entertaining and fit in perfectly with the relaxed and ambient atmosphere of the restaurant we were in. I don't know if it was the great atmosphere which Dmitry created, or whether it was the melt-in-your-mouth Santiago Rum, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Macanudo. Perhaps I was just pleased to finally meet other cigar smokers, having never been in a room where so many people were smoking cigars... Ever. Anyway, I really decended into a state of total relaxation - which is much needed at this time of year. Followed the Macanudo up with a dose of Cuban tobacco - Trini Reyes. Which was fantastic - all nuts, cream and grass. Still prefer the Parti Shorts and BCJs, but Trini is growing on me, it's just still a little too grassy for my liking. Reminded me of a well aged, good quality Punch. Here are some pics of the evening. Wanted to say thanks to Dmitry for such a great evening and giving me the chance to finally participate in the (albeit tiny) Russian cigar smoking circle, and thanks to FOH for providing such a great forum which constantly surprises me with the depth of knowledge of its members and opportunities to expand my cigar hobby. I usually do a lot of travelling (things have been slow the past year or so...) and look forward to hooking up with some other members for a smoke on the other side of the world somewhere, or even at home! Its not just about the cigars.

thechenman
Great post Kanga...Dimitry, I really admire what you are trying to accomplish as well as the success you have had so far. FYI, I am a frequent visitor to your website. It's great reading about FOHers getting together across the globe and I have had the good fortune of attending an event earlier this year in NYC. There is a special quality about cigars that just brings people together. Thanks for sharing.
cigarros
Thanks mates for warm words in my address!!! Separate thanks to Roger! I am immensely happy that FOH serves as association for people who really loves cigars around the worldwide. I don't wish to seem like the person whom make the cigar's show-business in Russia , it's not true! Cigars - just my lovely hobby! I would like that cigars in Russia will smokes as well as in other countries, it is a long way but we're on a right way... Separate thanks for all who supports me at a FOH forum! I feel that some members perceive me with hostility ( may be they thinks that me is communist or KGB-agent or ... I don't know...) that not absolutely truly. I just like cigars and here me single rOOsie (not aussie!!) Yeah! Roger has surprised me with his knowledge of Russian, besides I can tell that he has very beautiful girlfriend Olesya! To me important that Russian smokers knew all about the cuban cigars. Yesterday we're have smoked Macanudo cigars because I don't trust in quality of CC from russians importers)) Often they sell fake CC and another level of quality I personally buy CC in Europe (France, Deutchland, Swiss, Italy etc). My global purpose - show to russian aficionados that СС the best tobacco in the world! My friends already buy cigars from the Czar! Thx Rob! Once again thanks to all and also be assured that Russia too loves CC! Regards to all! From Russia with love, Dmitrii))
