El Presidente
Here are a few results from the "choose 8 cigars to take away for a long weekend thread" Here are our top 11 cigars as voted by members. We had to go to 10 to account for ties. The list is in order. Same colour means same number of votes. Partagas 898 Varnished Ramon Allones Specially Select. Partagas D 4 Bolivar Belicoso Finos H. Upmann Magnum 46 Cohiba Robusto Bolivar Petiti Corona Diplomatico No 4 Trinidad Reyes Saint Luis Rey Regio Montecristo No 2 _____________________________ One vote behind were the following: H. Upmann Sir Winston Partagas Lusitania Juan Lopez Seleccion No 2 Cohiba Siglo VI Cohiba Siglo IV Por larranaga Petit Corona It is heartening to see the revival of cigars such as the SLR Regio and Diplomatico Number 4. If I could add a few skinnies such as the Montecristo Especial, Cohiba Lancero (they also had solid support in the poll) I would be a happy man if added to the members selection. bunburyist
Interesting. Also, it just occured to me that I voted thinking it was an outdoors/camping type weekend. Not sure why I thought that, but it slightly affected my choice. Hence there were no 'civilised' cigars like PartyConn. no.2 etc. Can we look forward to a 'weekend selection pack' offer? Coupled up with a strong but cheapo tin box and I'm in I know some guys locally who can make cigar tubes....

I suspect that if more folks had experience with these and other smaller ring smokes, i.e. Partagas Series du Connaisseur, that they would rank highly. These are great cigars. Tampa1257
I thought the selection had to come from my own humidor, not what is in current production. I agree with shrink that if more folks had experience with smaller ring smokes like the Serie du Connaisseur and the Montecristo Especial, they would rank highly. kilroy
Yeah seriously... there are two petite coronas in the list and that's it?! That list just reads out as the whos who list of each line. Tampa and shrink are right. I we need more thin gauge representation! I do like that the Partagas topped the list however!
thechenman
Interesting selection. Some expected, others surprising. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I also find it interesting seeing what others are actually holding in their humidors.
El Presidente
It is interesting that only the Dip 4 is in this (extended) list and the projected discontinuation list for 2010. Other cigars to do well in voting were: H. Upmann connoisseur No 1 HDM Epicure No 2 Cohiba lancero Punch Petit Corona Diplomatico No 2 Vegas Robaina Unicos Juan Lopez seleccion No 1 Bolivar Corona Extra Punch Petit Punch Montecristo Especial Punch Royal Seleccion No 11 Bolivar Corona Gigante Montecristo No 4 The Partagas Serie De Connoisseur line barely registered amongst members which surprised me but is no doubt reflective of the global position of the line. For the life of me I don't know why. Partagas 898 varnished came out No 1. Connie 1/2/3/ are no less in quality and bring something different to the marque in terms of vitola. Perhaps the thinking (and i use that term loosely) of HSA is that Connie 1/2/3/ lovers can stock up and will gravitate to 898V. There is little love in HSa for the skinnies. Their passion only apparently extends toward those children who add to the balance sheet.
Colt45
The Partagas Serie De Connoisseur line barely registered amongst members which surprised me but is no doubt reflective of the global position of the line. Yes, but the original criteria was eight cigars you'd grab for a long weekend, without thinking about it, old reliables. Not really "cigars you can't live without" or similar...... Was this some kind of ink blot test?
El Presidente
Yes, but the original criteria was eight cigars you'd grab for a long weekend, without thinking about it, old reliables. Not really "cigars you can't live without"or similar...... Was this some kind of ink blot test? More of a snapshot. The question was restricted to what you have now in your humidor. Cigars are a consumable and I couldn't think of a better way to gauge what people are consuming without bastardising the outcome. All in all the list is pretty much what I anticipated excluding the Dip 4 and the SLR Regio ...two cigars I wholeheartedly agree with.

Jimmy2
Good choices as for small ring gauge cigars I think most have experience with them but don't like getting plugged cigars so most people dont buy them overall. Also bigger ring cigars have great flavor these days more than ever since 08 i think and you dont have to worry about plugged cigars.. I think their will be many more smaller ring cigars getting the cut next year and they will be eye popers just a guess but we will see. Lets face it i like smaller ring cigars !! but they just dont sell on a large scale like they use to and i can live with a CG or Robusto as they have much as the same flavor as the smaller ring gauges today. I will agree to disagree on this one mate. Should they move forward with the discontinuation of the Partagas the Connoisseur No 1/2/3 it is akin the loss of a species. Nothing else delivers that flavour format. The Connie 3 particularly irks....the format and flavour is unique. I feel the same way with the Dip 4's. so unique amongst petit corona. It can't be replaced. Reminds me when we lost the Upmann Super Corona in 02. Has that sugarcane/cream/toasted tobacco flavour ever been reproduced? I miss that cigar
