PigFish
Keeping with the theme of some of the previous music threads, I have unleashed the power of YouTube in search of some of my all time favorite guitarists. I am hoping that you will do the same. Okay, I can't play **** for a musical instrument but my brother who is a musician has introduced me to some fine music over the years. One thing that I learned from him is that a fine guitarist is not one who simply plays fast or behind his back! A great guitarist has a "sound." He plays with touch, he evokes feelings when he plays. I have many such favorite musicians; this on one of them. Enjoy and post some of yours. - Prof. Piggy

Habanos2000
In my opionion, you can't get any better for sheer energy, longevity and musicianship than Metallica. Here's a clip of them playing in the Roman coliseum in Nimes, France this summer.

tyler4178
For a new generation of blues players, Sean Costello, IMHO, was second to none. Unfortunately, Sean recently passed away. He has a foundation in his honor. http://www.seancostellofund.org/
Jesuscookies
Wow! This guy was awesome. How did he die? Suicide? My best friend growing up had BPD and managed to get ahold of gun. Killed himself at the ripe old age of 22. Very sad indeed. For a new generation of blues players, Sean Costello, IMHO, was second to none. Unfortunately, Sean recently passed away. Erm310mce
Great Thread..... I'm a former professional guitarist for many years, but all washed up now, just strumming a little at home and still learning about the instrument. It is great to see so many different styles and great guitarists listed here. I have so many heros of the instrument, hard to condense to a short list but for me a hero is someone who has taken the instrument to a new level, offered a new way of playing and like Prof. Piggy posted, someone that has it, makes you take notice and you just feel the tone coming out of the instrument. I think BB King changed how all blues players approach playing. Influenced so many, including my favorite blues player Stevie Ray, love to see so many responses for him, just an amazing powerful player who's best playing was yet to come. BB said that music just flowed through his body, so true. Modern guys like Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray still pay homage to BB. For Country players, I think Chet Atkins changed how country players look at the instrument, one of the pioneers of the genre and he has influenced so many of the elite modern players, Roy Clark, Vince Gill etc. For Rock/Jazz guys, Les Paul was so way ahead of his time. Not only as a player but an inventor with many of his inventions still being used for modern recorded music. But maybe the most influencial rock player of all time has got to be Jimi Hendrix, amazing what he accomplished in a short life. Influenced so many great players, Eric Johnson, Stevie, Clapton etc., Jimi still lives through the playing of these guys. My favorite style lately is solo acoustic fingerstyle players, and there are so many great ones. For my Australian mates, you all have one of the most amazing players out of your country named Tommy Emmanual. This guy puts out one amazing show. Here is one of my favorites. Thanks for the other posts, all amazing performances.
