buster Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Anyone have any info on the fate of the Cuban Cigar Reviews website ( http://www.cigars-review.org/ ). Looks like it has been hijacked or maybe a registration thingy has run out. It now has ads w/ links to cigar vendors. While not the end all and be all of cigar reviews, it was a good starting point as well as decent listing of marques and vitolas. Rick
bigfunkyg Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Thats quite odd, I just get a "page not found" error now. I was on there earlier this morning and it was fine then. I agree, I like that site as well as a great database of brands and vitolas although I find the info to be a bit innacurate at times. The reviews tend to be iffy at best and I would guess many of the reivewers are smokeing fakes and don't know it. G
semery74 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 That is a great reference site, which I saw a lot of FOH members contribute to, but this could be just a case of them switching DNS or doing maintenance to the site. Has anyone ever discovered the hidden links they had on each of the marca homepages?
Shelby07 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Appears that the domain name was just renewed today. Probably just a timing glitch. Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com)Domain Name: CIGARS-REVIEW.ORG Created on: 29-Aug-03 Expires on: 29-Aug-18 Last Updated on: 14-Jul-09
thechenman Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I noticed this as well today. I really liked this site as a reference source. When I visit it, it take me to some Go Daddy.com hosting site. Strange.
jfury76 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Of course there is no accounting for personal taste, but I always like to read other people's opinions to see how they compare with mine. This site is a good general resource and I hope that it is restored soon.
FireDigger Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 It's a great website for people just getting into CCs. I remember using it to build my 10-pack samplers when I first started. Have not checked back in a long time, but I hope it's not gone for good.
jdizzle113 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Just wanted to check to see if this site is not working for anyone else? I was using it yesterday just fine and then last night it went to some ad site and hasn't been right since.
shrink Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It's been down before a couple of times. It was related to hackers breaching their security. I expect it'll be up again before long. I certainly hope so... it's been a useful site.

semery74 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Which hidden links? I never noticed anything like that... When you read the description for the marca, for example the one for Montecristo, you'll read about the history of the brand. But the word Montecristo in the paragraph will be a link to a vendor's site. Reminds me of another site I know, but without anonymity.

But the word Montecristo in the paragraph will be a link to a vendor's site. Reminds me of another site I know, but without anonymity. That's interesting. I just looked at the cached versions of the website stored on Google. The brand names on the marca pages are not highlighted as a hyperlink and appear in the same font/color as the text, but when I put my cursor over it, it shows a link and clicking on it does indeed bring you to a vendor. Who knew!? Rick
thechenman Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Well that's good news. I often go to that site for information. It can be useful at times.
gerem Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I like that website. Anytime I want to try a cigar, I go check it out on it!!!
Aficionado Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I like that website to,but this page dominate lot of errors in the descriptions brands and despite letters sent to them, these errors don't improve. for example Sancho Panza history of brand.
