I have been putting off reviewing this cigar for a long time now… partly because I am lazy but mostly because I have been umm-ing and arr-ing about whether I should let anybody else know just how superb these elegant smokes can be! My altruistic side finally got the better of me though

These really are the skinniest of the skinnies, and the stick I have chosen is an excellent example of the vitola, beautiful tan shade and aroma at cold is softly floral.

Here's a few comparison shots so you can see just how skinny a 28 ring gauge is:

She lights up beautifully and immediately you are hit with rafts and rafts of flavour. I smoked more or less a box of these before I finally managed to pinpoint what the overriding taste from these cigars was – in fact it was only really when a buddy and I sat down together and discussed the flavours that we both finally came to a conclusion. This cigar tastes like fresh walnuts, more or less straight from the tree, slightly green but not bitter, just full on flavour.

As I progress into the second third the floral notes pick up and purging through the nose conjures up a whole new dimension – no pepper, nothing harsh, just flora and fresh hay. What a great cigar this is.

Final third now and the flavours have not diminished, nor have they been obscured by the slight increase in strength that has almost unnoticeably come on. Complex to the last, this incredible stick delivers in wads.

I can’t fault this cigar at all… if I had to criticise it I would say that it was TOO delicious as it made me smoke it too fast which is a definite no-no for skinnies.

I could only afford to buy a couple of the 00 boxes that the Czar had on offer, but if I had more cash I would definitely have bought the lot – for me these really are something special. Get ‘em while you can!

p.s. There was another recent review of this smoke and the reviewer made a very astute observation. To enjoy this cigar ‘you need to have a sunny disposition’. This is very true, you can’t be in a hurry to smoke this as then you’ll overheat the cigar and the only flavour you’ll get then will be tar This is a great spring/summer morning coffee smoke I reckon.

Nice review, and nice ashtray! I'm still not a small ring guage guy, and personally wouldn't even consider 28. But I appreciate your observations, they've opened my mind a bit to considering thin cigars.

Aged LGC bring something to the table which needs to be experienced. You make a salient point in that it took you the best part of a box to nail the unique flavour profile.

I do love this cigar. When I first sampled it I was much more of robustos/churchills kinda of a guy, but after trying this it changed my smoking habits quite considerably. I was surprised at how much flavour you can get from something so delicate. I am now very much a skinnies convert, mostly smoking Partagas Connie 2's & 3's, LGC No.1 & No.3, and when I can get them, ERDM Grandes de Espagna and Quai D'orsay Panetela.

This is all a far cry from the Siglo VI, Mag 50's and BBF's that I used to tuck into more or less everyday - although I do still enjoy these on a somewhat regular basis!!

You've got to love smoking cigars, just so much variety to be had

It usually takes me about 45-60 mins. Often I smoke them faster than that (no self control!) but I would recommend 45mins as a minimum. If you smoke too fast then the tar builds up real quick and you'll end up having to reclip the smoke.. you'll also miss out on the incredible flavour profile too... so make sure you don't rush it!

La Gloria Cubana is a brand of cigars that I started enjoying over ten years ago, and they still taste pretty much the same, great! They have some other qualities that I also recall from the past, too. This particular brand is rolled in both the Dominican Republic and Miami, Florida.

Same here, i love this bugger, its skinny but the La Gloria Cubana No.3 is a real gem and i could only wish that more long and skinny would come out from cuba.

Personal I love pairing the floral taste from the tobacco with a sweet and spicy rom.

I'm a huge fan of the LGC No 1-4. I've always been surprised that they don't get more attention. I do have to say it took me a few years to really understand and appreciate the delicate, unique flavors they bring to the table.

I would recommend pulling the trigger on the #3's and even the #4's which I believe are not discontinued. The #1 is a personal favorite, but if your a fan, you'll like both of these vitolas as well!
