asmith Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Rob tries to convert Ken to Half Coronas. How does it all go, does Rob succeed or was it just a waste of time.
Colt45 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Well.......... What can one say. Nice to see KG fully dressed for a change. Do the hokey pokey, Little old lady from Pasadena.....
Ethernut Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Had a Siglo 1 the other day from 06 and it rocked my world... Fantastic. Have punch pp's on the way looking forward to seeing how they shape up.. Keep up the reviews, you three are hilarious! Ether...
shrink Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Nice to see KG fully dressed for a change. He was only wearing a jockstrap during the filming. The pants were added digitally in post-production.
Bill Hayes Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Would have loved to see a Trini Reyes thrown in there. One of my favs.
Guest rob Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 "Do the locomotion"..... KG, if that was your CD playing... I feel sorry for your neighbours.
Ken Gargett Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 "Do the locomotion"..... KG, if that was your CD playing... I feel sorry for your neighbours. we were playing barry white (for smithy). might have been a little 60's sneak in. neighbours are a long way away and they are an event centre for weddings etc so i suspect that 'do the locomotion' has been played there a few times. but too far away to hear me and pretty much vice versa.
sounddust Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Damn that was a fun review. Don't forget about the Party Shorts and SCDLH El Principes, all great value. Do the locomotion with me . . . .
aavkk Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Good to see you back Ken!!! I still can't decide whether I'm laughing with or at you guys but I sure wish I was on that deck weekly. Rob too bad you or Lisa can't swig through NYC in a few weeks. Cheers
OLS Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I can see Ken's point, nad totally understand why he thinks there is no reason for him to like small cigars. Initially they were asking Ken if he was surprised to taste roasted nuts in a smaller RG cigar. I do not KNOW Ken, but it doesn't seem to be a flavor issue with Ken, nor is he surprised to taste them in a small cigar. He, like many people, probably feels "cost to tobacco" ratio is too low to really enjoy the cigar or want to buy many of them. I find the minutos and perlas are my favorite cigar vitolas. Just SO MUCH more power in the little cigar blends!

You'll love this forum!
Padrino Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 "This is like chasing a handicapped woman" - Ken, you beaut ! That was brilliant !!
OLS Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 "This is like chasing a handicapped woman" - Ken, you beaut !That was brilliant !! He was certainly on his game on this one, I shot Coke through my nose when he said "I give it a 30". hahaha. I couldn't understand the words on the Handicapped comment. Classic.
Tampa1257 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The Half Corona is a perfect size cigar for those that only have 30-45 minutes to enjoy a Habanos. I enjoy the Montecristo No.5 and the Diplomaticos No.5 often. Others that are the best of the best IMHO are: RASCC SCDH El Principe Bolivar Corona Junior Partagas Short Trii Reyes While I have never been much of a Punch or a Cuaba fan, they would be at the bottom of my list. Those that discount the Half Corona are dissing a truly great cigar.
Van55 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Don't you guys have some Lanceros to try? I think Ayala just proved that he has the palate of the proverbial billy goat. The Cuaba gets 88????? Impossible. Chuck listed the great Perlas/minutos -- El Principe, Monte #5, Dip #5, Partagas Short, Reyes, RASCC -- all exceptionally good examples of their repsective Marcas for a quick 30 minute smoke.
mbrody Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Appreciate the review fellas. I am a fan of the half corona, originally because of time. Now, I have become addicted to their wham bam thank you mam' personality. I am a regular ***** for the Siglo I and PPP of recent years. Enjoy them both thoroughly, but have noticed that you can really get major swings in the same box. I'm talking a 91 vs a 86 type of difference.

Enjoy them both thoroughly, but have noticed that you can really get major swings in the same box. I'm talking a 91 vs a 86 type of difference. understand but it should not be a 30 to 89 difference. and i reckon 30 was generous for that one. and yes re above, flavours are not necessarily the issue. usually happy to smoke a sig 1.
mbrody Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 30's a pretty horrible score Ken, but I have not had a PPP from an 07 box that fell below 85, for what it's worth. Going back to the Bolivar Short, I recall a similiar experience that you rated it rather poorly, among some good reviews. I noted that same experience with the Boli Short. Had a great one, had one that was like a cigarette. Crapola. I am assuming the discrepancy is because of consistancy and quality control? I'm hoping this is what you guys experiences b/c if all the 08 PPP's I have are 30's, I'm in one helluva hole. Interesting enough, a box of 07 RASCC has had 3 out of the 5 I have sampled to be plugged - golf ball through a straw analogy. Also more interesting, a 06 Trini Reyes from RobG was a phenomenal smoke. Could it be a sign that the half coronas are going downhill???
asmith Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 "This is like chasing a handicapped woman" - Ken, you beaut !That was brilliant !! That was brilliant, but what I found more interesting was Ayala's quick defense starting at 1.10min through the reivew. Ken, "Its like chasing handicapped women....in the nicest possible way!" Ayala "I've never done it" WTF??? You came out with that comment just a little too quickly Rob for my liking, it almost sounded like you have used that lie before to cover something you have done in the past????
mkz Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Interesting enough, a box of 07 RASCC has had 3 out of the 5 I have sampled to be plugged - golf ball through a straw analogy. Got a box of 07´s. Have smoked seven of them and five was plugged like hell. In short: The RASCC hasnt impressed me...
