neal875 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Well, we've just lost a handful more of some of the island's great cigars to the bean counters in charge of such matters. Names like Petit Punch, Monarchs A/T, Immensa and Bolivar Bonitas have joined the ranks of other legends and become part of the history books. And while we're all trying to stock up on the last few of the remaining boxes, it might be time to consider: What' Next? Which will be on the Last of The Great Discontinued Cigars Sale next year? So, based on what we've seen in recent years, are there any thoughts on which of our favorites might go in the 2010 round of cuts? And which would really bother you the most? It's always good to plan ahead-- just in case one of our favorites seems to be in peril.

El Presidente Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Pure Speculation but you would question the future of: Sancho Panza (all)......Sancho Panza must wonder why Cuaba isn't getting the same scrutiny Punch Royal Seleccion No 11 & 12
sounddust Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I would just like to say that I saw a recent production from the supposedly destroyed Guantanamera called the Minutos. This is like a bad movie . . . .
mkz Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Punch Royal Seleccion No 11 & 12 My thought too. Good thing I got a box of 12´s on the way...
neal875 Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Pure Speculation but you would question the future of:Sancho Panza (all)......Sancho Panza must wonder why Cuaba isn't getting the same scrutiny Punch Royal Seleccion No 11 & 12 Petit Punch. Super Selection #2 and now #1. Next the Royal Selection 11 and 12. What is left of this great brand? Punch Punch and the Double Corona? Mmmmmm? Is the strategy to weaken the structure of the individual brands and remove their respective individualitiy? Because even if it is not the strategy, it could well be the law of unintended consequences. So Partagas will be like Punch will be like Bolivar, etc? Same sizes--different logos? Kind of what General Motors did here with the Buick, Chevy and Oldsmobile brands--once upon a time, each was a paragon of individual branding only to be followed by homogenization of features and design followed by near (very near right now) bankruptcy.
Colt45 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Is the strategy to weaken the structure of the individual brands and remove their respective individualitiy? The "strategy" is bottom line - they're cutting what doesn't sell. I'd be willing to bet that if they were selling Punch RS11s by the boat load that they would not consider stopping production.
bassman Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 It would seem from lack of discussion on any cigar board, I'm the only person buying SLR Coronas. Bet they go next.
Wiley Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I'm really wish I hadn't read this thread. I feel sick.
