messa Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I think we need something in the 57 ring gauge department .... so let's bring back HdM Gran Piramides
tuff Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 #1. Por Larranga Piramide and #2. Por Larranga Piramide
Sandman Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 LGC Robusto and PL laguito #1. There has already been an RA CG that has been produced twice for the Swiss, not sure that PCC needs to copy that one. Be original here.
Jimmy2 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 There was never a RA CG ever made for a RR ! I made a mistake they did in small production in Italy very small.. You are talking about the RA Eminencia which is (5 5/8 x 44) and almost the same as the Bolivar CE in length ... Vote for the RA CG !!!! CG size 5 5/ 8" x 46 for the people that dont know ..
Ginseng Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I like the CG size. It really is a versatile size and not too much of anything in particular. Just right, I supposed. Wilkey
Colt45 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 There was never a RA CG ever made for a RR ! Unless I am mistaken, the 2005 RE for Italy - the RA Selección Suprema - was a 46 x 143 corona gorda.
Jimmy2 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 5 2/3 x 46 i think ... Again we have to pick 2 types of cigars just to remind some of you gents..
ehdg Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Couple thoughts how bout: 1) HdM Beli or Piramide. 2) SLR Beli or Piramide.
Fatcigar Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 To be commercially viable, the chosen cigars must appeal to both regular smokers and collectors. Furthermore, projecting that the Asia Pacific Regionals will most probably be released in 3Q/4Q of 2010, Asian economic situation should be on a slow upturn according to the world economic experts...price points should be conservative. Having said that, it would be great to see the following ER - Asia Pacific: * Punch Conde 109 - 10s Rafael Gonzalez Conicales (torpedo, famous amongst old-timers, 52x156) - 25s Hoyo de Monterrey Obsequios (perfecto, 46x137) - 25s * La Flor de Cano Robustos (shadow of 'Short Churchill', 50x124) - 25s * - Perferred.
Stalebread Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I like the CG size. It really is a versatile size and not too much of anything in particular. Just right, I supposed.Wilkey Goldilocks took a puff from the Partagas Serie du Connaisseur #1. "This cigar is too hot!" she said sadly. So, next she tasted the Trinidad Robusto Extra. "This cigar is too cold." she sighed. Finally, she tasted the (Ramon Allones ?) Coronas Gordas. "Ahhh, this cigar is just right," she exclaimed, and she smoked it all up.
Colt45 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 To be commercially viable, the chosen cigars must appeal to both regular smokers and collectors. Here we have a fundamental difference in philosophy. If PCC wants to cater to collectors, that's certainly their prerogative, but I don't feel that doing so is a prerequisite for a successful RE. I'd much rather see them insist on a cigar which tastes great and draws properly (all of them), priced as closely to regular production as possible. And yes, there are those to whom money is no object, who will buy whatever is released. They may snicker at me for counting my pennies - I may pity them for being led by the nose.
Jimmy2 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Collectors ? Cigars are meant to be smoked and the majority of the people who smoke cigars are not collector's and do not want to pay a outrages price's for a so called collector box of cigars. Plus if they make 5,000 boxes it wont be considered collectors item . Collectors of cigars are a small number compared to the large number of cigar lover's who dont collect cigars they are the cigar market. Most people who smoke cigars are working class people who want a good cigar and would pay a little more to get something special and smoke them from time to time. So the majority of us working class people have no interest in buying a very very expensive box of cigars and put them away for 80 years just to say look what I have look at me club. We must vote on something we can all afford and enjoy as anything to expensive will not sell ... it will fail for sure !!! Man I am a passionate Italian that was a mouthful ..
Smooth Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 -Any Lonsdales made for a RE or EL, im buying. Adore this dying vitola. -Any RE with a ring gauge of 42 or below. -RA Belicosos with a blend offering the best of a RASS or RAE. -PL Corona. (every time I smoke a PLPC, it ends too quickly. Just like bed on sunday morning, just another 20-30mins please!)
PigFish Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I was going to write another diatribe about this but I really don’t want to infect the masses with my negativity as of late especially on this topic. The EL and RE cigars will mean different things to different people. All I can suggest is posting about what they mean to you; what you want when you buy them. I believe that is the spirit of this thread. When the poll comes out you can vote on a number of choices and those choices will only be there if you speak up about them. If the choices are there I will cast a vote for a slim cigar. I will not likely buy them regardless; why should I? If I can buy a nice box of cervantes for say “X” dollars why would I buy an LE or RE cervantes for “2X” dollars given they have no track record or known taste performance? I will likely buy 1 or 2 singles just for the experience as my curiosity does at times overrule both my miserly nature as well as my wisdom. At best I hope both Rob and H SA can make money on the products. In this way Rob can still offer sales and favorable prices on the cigars that I buy and H SA can still produce some their lesser demand cigars for Rob to sell to me. A petit coronas is a petit coronas. Why then is there a difference in the retail price between a Monty 4 and an SLR PC? Demand, perception; just an ability to charge more for the name; I believe that it is all the above. There will always be products that have a higher profit margin that in some way may subsidize the lesser brands that I often turn to. If someone wants to subsidize my smoking by buying these cigars, I say, why fight it?
cigarros Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Culebras from any of them. Now that people have been preconditioned to rarity people will probably soak them up quickly. +1! Agree completely!
brian1 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 From my experience it is very obvious that the RR in particular are getting higher or better quality tobacco than the regular lines. All cuban tobacco is not created equal as we know and the RR and special release stuff is IMHO worth a premium because its a higher quality product. Now we can discuss how much of a premium that should be, but thats for another thread. I was going to write another diatribe about this but I really don’t want to infect the masses with my negativity as of late especially on this topic. The EL and RE cigars will mean different things to different people. Colt45 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 it is very obvious that the RR in particular are getting higher or better quality tobacco than the regular lines. That, as with much of what we discuss here, is quite debatable.
Jimmy2 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Colt I agree with you as regular production has been great !!! More than ever some smokers don't relize that.Must be smoking aged cigars..LOL
El Presidente Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 Thanks to all for the ideas. I will start putting the poll together and post it tomorrow. This poll will comprise 10-20 cigars which we will narrow down to 6 in a second poll next week. I will not include a Marque/vitola combination that has been done before in a RR format. Thanks for your input!
PigFish Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 That, as with much of what we discuss here, is quite debatable. I am glad you said it Ross... cause I was thinking it. I was just not going to go there. -Piggy
Huckins Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I'd love to have something interesting and smokable - and affordable too. I get through 6 to 8 cigars a day ranging from petit corona to double corona. Lets have a LE or RR for the "real cigar smoker" - so a 100 cajon of a PC or Corona or Corona Gorda or Extra. Looking back to the good old days before WWII, many vitolas came in 100 cajons - lets have a renaissance of "large format packaging".
Colt45 Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I am glad you said it Ross... cause I was thinking it. I was just not going to go there. -Piggy Piggy, I'm pretty sure that you and the main of the membership understand that I'm not trying to be antagonistic. For me, it's conversation - as if we were all sitting around together. (though to be honest, my day to day language may be a bit more........salty) And poor Rob - asks for a few ideas, and as is often the case.........
CigarZen Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Rob -- how about a Bolivar Super Corona Gorda (about a 1/2 inch longer than a CG, 46 RG) with the Simone (Canadian RE) blend -- in cabs of 50! ... OK we will take in 25s.
