Shelby07 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Has anyone seen the video? "The fabulous Story of the Cuban Cigar" I just ran across it on Amazon and noticed it's available from Netflix.
laficion Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Shelby07, I am so pleased that you found this video, I cannot say how much I recommend this work of art to all my friends at FOH. A work of art ? No, what am I saying, A work of love. This film was made by a very dear friend of mine, Yves Belaubre, who is a TRUE Habano Aficionado. His love of Habanos, of Cuba, of the Cuban People is so exceptional that no words can describe It. He lives and breathes Habanos,. That in itself is not stange since his Father, Gilbert Belaubre is the creator of the brand QUAI D' ORSAY . In 1975 he was asked by the French President to create a brand made for the French market. Gilbert Belaubre went to Cuba with the people of the French monopole SEITA and with the permission of CUBATOBACO, Started to blend different cuban tobaccos to come out with a blend for the brand and gave the name Quai d' orsay. Even today that same blend is upheld by Habanos S.A. ask El Prez to verifiy my saying with the persons he knows inside of HSA. Anyway ,to make a long story short, He made this beautiful film in honor of Cuba and Its tobacco. But more importantly in honor of all the growers such as Robaina, of whom he interviewed on the film and the exceptional way It was done was truly emotional. I can go on and on but one last thing I must add. In an other thread I spoke about two cigar magazines in France that were shut down because of attacks by an organization calling themselves " The Defence of Nonsmokers", well one of the magazines was Yves Belaubre's " Cigare & Sensations " which was one of the most beauitiful magazines on cigars and on , L'art de vivre, that has ever been published. It really made CA look like cheap ****. If any of the members of FOH who have the chance to get this video, run and get it, you will never regrete it. I'm sorry for being so long but thanks shelby07
TuxPuff Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 It's an absolute must see...I've watched it several times. laficion...thanks for the insight! Now I have to watch it again

I love how Robaina at the end of this film rolls one up on his knee. It takes him only a minute, and then lights it.
CigarZen Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I have it. Definitely worth seeing; in fact I should watch it again.
Van55 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Thanks for sharing. I have put the DVD at the top of my NetFlix queue and will view it with even greater interest, knowing that I "know" someone who knows the film maker.
shortsqueeze Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I love this documentary. I have a copy and watch it about once a quarter with great enjoyment each and every time. If you are a member of this board and haven't seen it, SEE IT!
FireDigger Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I watched it before I really knew about the whole Cuban cigar hobby. My best friend got it for me along with a box of Bolivar Royal Coronas. After that, got a copy of it from a BOTL not knowing it was the same DVD. Definitely a must-have for a Habanos fan.
SmokinAl Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Thank you for the beautiful insight Guy! Rob, that's the one I left for you a couple of months back. Give me a holler if you can't find it, there's a spare at home.
Stalebread Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 In an other thread I spoke about two cigar magazines in France that were shut down because of attacks by an organization calling themselves " The Defence of Nonsmokers", well one of the magazines was Yves Belaubre's " Cigare & Sensations " which was one of the most beauitiful magazines on cigars Informative thread. I went immediately to Amazon to check it out. Will order the DVD later this morning. I didn't see your other thread, Laficion, about Cigare & Sensations. You are right about it being a beautiful magazine. Even though my French is not good enough to read it, I've kept what must be their first issue. What do-gooder organizations like Defence of Nonsmokers can get away with is a real bite in the ass.
Tampa1257 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I've watched the DVD at least a dozen times and always find something that I missed before, great DVD!
laficion Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I didn't see your other thread, Laficion, about Cigare & Sensations. Hi Stalebread, My other thread was on the smoking ban prposeal in west Austrailia. I hope this link works, with my luck....... http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/inde...t=0&start=0
Habanos2000 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Based on your glowing reviews this sounds right up my alley and I'm picking up a copy!
Shelby07 Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 Well, I guess there is some interest. Yesterday when I put this disc at the top of my Netflix queue it was available "Now" - This morning when they shipped my #2 pick it had changed to "Very Long Wait." Next time I'm gonna watch something before I post about it to you vultures!
