El Presidente Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Tapping away here answering e-mails. Humid Tuesday afternoon on the deck and I have had a chance to enjoy a very very good recent production Bolivar Gold Medal and a glass of Tin Shed Shiraz while listening to one of my favourite albums of 08 "The Raconteurs" - Consolers of the lonely. This is Jack Whites (White Stripes) second band (Patrick Keeler - Drums, Jack Lawrence- Bass Guitar/ Brendan Benson -Keys-Guitar). Great rock album-edgy, great lyrics. http://www.theraconteurs.com/site.html You can download the album from the site. It has been a tough 10 days without Lise and Simon but Smithy and Diana have been rocks and you guys simply inspirational. I will catch up with Lise tonight/tomorrow in hospital and will pass on your heartfelt wishes. This Bolivar is divine. Into the last third, full bodied, rambunctious. Cheers
shrink Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I know it's been tough without your courtiers, but hey, somebody's gotta do it. May I have the envelope, please. Thank you. And the boxcode is....
Tampa1257 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Bolivar: full bodied and rambunctious! Perfect description!!!
Colt45 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I know it's been tough without your courtiers, but hey, somebody's gotta do it. Yes, he's probably had to pour his own wine, and feed himself grapes.
laficion Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 This Bolivar is divine. Into the last third, full bodied, rambunctious. Rob, NOW you really done it, Bolivar Gold Medal goes back a long time with me. I think I started smoking them back in 1971 and about 6 out of 10 habanos that I was smoking at that time were the Gold Medals. The new ones are great but not the same AT ALL. The box, the presentation, the taste, the aromas, I mean they were sooo rich and really rabunctious that you could not smoke one in the house, the smell would stay a week. Of course the tobacco was not the same either, they changed the plant ever since. Anyway, It was a cigar dear to my heart. Here are a few pics. from one of the last boxes that I still have from around 1978 or so . I couldn't bring myself to throw The box away.
jeromeroselli Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Laficion, Great pics, I love vintage cigar shots. If you've got more you ought to make a special post in the photos section.
smokem Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Never had the originals , but the recent ones are very very good - URO ENE08 and LSO JUL07
PigFish Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Great post on the original box... Thanks for sharing. -Piggy
laficion Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Never had the originals , The first German LCDH release (GKI-DIC04 ) came very very close to the originals thanks to Chris Wolters in Germany and even those need another year or two. So I guess I'll leave them alone for now. Darn It !!!!!!!!!!!
Mr Peales Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Jack White is gold. Every project he is involved with is full bodied, rambunctious.
Sawyer Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 This is Jack Whites (White Stripes) second band (Patrick Keeler - Drums, Jack Lawrence- Bass Guitar/ Brendan Benson -Keys-Guitar). Great rock album-edgy, great lyrics. http://www.theraconteurs.com/site.html You can download the album from the site. Jack White has another new band called The Dead Weather. You can listen to a couple of the new songs from here. http://www.thedeadweather.com/ Allison Mosshart from The Kills is the lead singer and I read somewhere that Jack White plays the drums but sings as well. I don't think the full album will be out until June but you can get the singles from itunes.

Is there any definitive way to identify single cigars (no access to boxs) as either the origional, the Wolters, and the current cigar.
Guest rob Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 The Raconteurs are frickin awesome! Check this White has charisma and talent far beyond his years. As for the gold medals - never tried them... but damn I'd love to. Perfect size from a great brand. I hope L is feeling a bit better.
laficion Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 A question please. Is there any definitive way to identify single cigars (no access to boxs) as either the origional, the Wolters, and the current cigar. Hi Trevor2, A definitive way ? No, But let me put It this way, If I give you two glasses of cola, can you tell me which is COKE and which is PEPSI ? With two glasses filled with juice can you tell which is lemon or lemon lime ? It all has to do with your Gustaory Memory. As for cigars, you also keep a trace of tastes and ordors, they are engraved in your memory. The bolivar Gold Medal is a cigar that I have smoked quit a few and the taste of the originals that I smoked in the 70's and 80's really stand out because the cigar was so pungent that you cannot forget that taste. It's like biting on something that you ate when you were a kid but you haven't had since. ALL of a suddent , your Gustatory memory will be awaken and you'll remember that unique taste again and when you had it last, It's all mental practise but very important in life; at least for me .
csgrip Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Jack White produces some rather unique sounds from a guitar. My neighbor and I are trying to compare him to more "legendary" guitarists and so far we come up with Jimmy, as well as "god" (yes, Clapton). My neighbor thinks John Mayer is the new king, but I think it's Jack White myself

jwm8592 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Hey Pres., due to all of your hard work here's something to put you in relaxation mode with some smooth music for enjoying a cigar, check it out. These guys are out of Colorado, I've been following them for over 15 years. There just one of those bands that don't have a bad song. Awesome in concert, actually there playing close by (Cleveland) tonight, I'll be there. Most have never heard of them; Big Head Todd & The Monsters is the band's name. Check them out for your listening pleasure: - put Big Head Todd in your computer's browser - when they come up click on the music tab under their name - it'll go to their website - at left click on listen for free - click first title "All the love you need" (album name), its just a name, nothing mushy) - then the songs will come up click on #1, #3 & #6 to get an idea of their stuff If you like go back and choose any of the albums, songs, etc.. enjoy mate,
