LOL one of the rules is you have to send me some Cuban Rum with those cigars. So when i get that puke flavor when smoking a NC i can wash it down with the Cuban rum. :spotlight:

This should be good, can't wait for the blind taste test. I always find these interesting as taste is so subjective but I would think that if he smokes that many CC's a day he'd be able to tell a CC from a NC. CC's just have that something different, people describe it as a twang. I have yet to find any NC that has that, even the best NC's can't replicate the twang and I'm guessing that comes from the soil the tobacco is grown in.

I hope he dont send me some 99/00 CC alot of them that i have smoked have been bland he might have some more tricks up his sleeve i know his game plan.

Hey Short tell me one thing there is going to be CC and NC mixed that you will send me?

I have to agree with most of Jimmy's statement regarding overall quality of CC vs NC.

Jimmy,

take some pics of the cigars, will you? Do a review. I bet you bat 1.000!

Wilkey, will you do us the honor and be the "Neutral Selectee" i.e. Moderator for this test?!

It would be a pleasure! Just let me know what you need me to do.

Geez -- the cigars aren't even in the mail yet and the excuses are already starting.

Have you ever seen the movie "Bottle Shock?"

This is gonna be interesting (and fun.)

. . . First and foremost, you will have to identify the cigars as either Cuban or N/C, . . .

My guess is Jimmy can do this pretty well. But doing that will not say much about which cigars Jimmy might like or dislike. It seems that this thread (and coutless others on countless boards) is about our preferences and prejudices and opinions and passion about cigars. (And about stating a passionately held opinion as if it were a fact.) What if Jimmy has to first commit to which cigars he likes and which he does not and after he does that, identify which ones are Cubans and which are not?

That's just an opinion. And not even a passionately held one.

In any event this will be fun and interesting.

Thanks to Jimmy and Josh and Wilkey for this experiment.

This is a classic post! Some very funny stuff here.

Best wishes on the blind test Jimmy. I have been involved in them in the past and they can be very tough.

Who is laying odds on this one? Oh, I forgot I don't gamble any more.

I'll take that bet. Are we betting cigars or dollars? When the rules are out, we'll have to figure out what we're betting. I'm thinking it should be a box of Nicaragua's finest, in honor of the sport at hand.

Gentlemen, I find this challenge quit interesting and worthy of two cigar lovers such as

Jimmy and Shortsqeeze, as long as It stays FRIENDLY and that it puts to light two fine

Aficionados. Let the challenge start and may both challengers contibute to the endless

questions on NC vs CC in a fun moment of pure BOTL enjoyment.

If I may, I would like to participate by offering this great cigar to the winner of this challenge.

This cigar was custom rolled for me at the LCDH conde de Villanueva in Havana in 2007

and is the size and model of the Cohiba Behike without of course being one of THE Behikes.

But I can say that It's a great cigar. ANYWAY, that's for the winner to smoke and see If It's

great.

So, let's see what happens and good luck to both of you my friends.

Wow. A generous genture.

I don't think there will be a winner or loser, however. Unless I read it wrong, Josh did not say, "I'll bet you can't do this."

Anyway, we all stand to win just because it's going to be interesting.

That's a wonderful gesture and a very tasty looking cigar :2thumbs: but I don't think there will be a winner or loser. I do agree with you 100% that this whole thing should be friendly!

As for the taste test, I think it's important to bear a few things in mind:

- These aren't really "tests" per se: there are no right or wrong answers and there is nothing to win or lose.

- I found the best way to think of it is as an exercise for your taste buds. You'll likely have some cigars you've had before as well as some you've never sampled. Try to enjoy each cigar on its own merits rather than worrying about about whether you guesses are correct or not. (That part was much harder for me to do than I thought it would be :D

- The point should be to have fun, enjoy some cigars, and possibly learn something about your tastes and preferences.

On the process:

Most of the tests I've observed or participated in had several categories the test subjects were to describe such as:

- country of origin

- marca

- MSRP or price range (such as cheapo, average, premium, super-premium)

- age

Tasting notes. The method I have liked best is a 5 section method including:

- prelight inspection and observations, if any

- 1st third tasting notes

- 2nd third tasting notes

- final 3rd tasting notes

- overall impression with a personal enjoyment rating on a scale of 1 - 10.

The personal rating is, to me, key. Country of origin, age, etc are all immutable facts - the test canot change them. The personal rating, though, is the summation of the individual's own experience with the cigar and is thus 100% subjective. And THAT is what these tests should really be about - did you enjoy the cigar?

Have fun Jimmy!

- Tim
