El Presidente Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 We will be finishing the top banner this week for the forum. I agree that overall it is a little too "bright" for my liking. For our tech heads....come up with a colour scheme which retains links to our past while setting the course for our future. I will let this run for the week so that you can see the new masthead up over the weekend. Submit by April 1 ....must upload a mock colour scheme for members to vote on. If we have a winner (the current scheme will also be voted on) then I will shoot you 10 Custom Hamlet cigars.
Colt45 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 As far as legibility goes, I thought the new forum prior to this most recent "update" was fine. I'd be for simply going back to that. Aside from the green intensity, I personally feel the real killer with this look is the dark gray between posts of a thread. Very distracting and just too wide. If we can't go back, I'd personally prefer the thinnest, lightest separator possible. If new colors are chosen, I'd hope they'd be subtle and unobtrusive - no blaring yoko ono, please.
El Presidente Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Come on Colt....You never liked Yoko Ono.....did you
Colt45 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Come on Colt....You never liked Yoko Ono.....did you Uh, that would be a resounding no.
kilroy Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Sounds like a fun assignment. I will, however, need an example of the old branding in order to get a feel for a new pattern.
armedak Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Ah come on there's nothing wrong with the color you just have to wear sun glasses when viewing the forum...
shrink Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 As for color alternatives, I think that the light green background tone on the FOH logo would be fine.
yossie Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 The original was beter , almost perfect.. As You know, Cigar smokers are conservative. So, We need to get back.
anacostiakat Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I liked it the way it was. But I am a big fan of red. . .
Colt45 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I just hope that in the end, we're not going to put form ahead of function. RA has stated that this forum is about the people that participate, and not the design (like a church is it's people and not the building). So, let the discussions be the focus, with any design elements subtle background. Let us be the meat, with the design the sauce - complimentary but never overpowering. Freedoooooooomm!
Fuzz Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Dare I say it... we use the same colours as Rob's shirts?
FlyFishingDude Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Dare I say it... we use the same colours as Rob's shirts? Ding, ding, ding, ding, we have a winner.....
sinnyc Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Dare I say it... we use the same colours as Rob's shirts? Ahhhhhhhhhrrrgggghhhhh, my eyes! It burns! It burns! :D - Tim
Ginseng Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Good gosh, I'm partially colorblind and my meager remaining rods and cones just took a serious hit! Wilkey
sounddust Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 At least Prez has the matching floral skin tone
Shelby07 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Why not just write a random color generator and let the chips fall where they may?
GP012 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 You guys think you have it bad just looking at a photo... think of all the poor saps who had to sit next to him wearing that monstrosity! Just imagine... overlooking the French Riviera on a nice summer afternoon, Alfredo is rolling perfect Laguito #1's at the table next to you, engaging conversation with friends and there's this BRIGHT PINK shirt ruining everything! :P
Colt45 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Just imagine... overlooking the French Riviera on a nice summer afternoon, Alfredo is rolling perfect Laguito #1's at the table next to you, engaging conversation with friends and there's this BRIGHT PINK shirt ruining everything! :P Yeah, I for one am glad I was stuck at home, going to work, doing chores....... I like to think of our humble host as.......... flamboyant......... yeah, that's it.
Mr Peales Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Let us be the meat, with the design the sauce - complimentary but never overpowering. Colt, I need to defend my profession here, Design is function. -P
Colt45 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Colt, I need to defend my profession here, Design is function. -P When properly executed, that can be true. (for what it's worth, I've earned a living manipulating color and images for over twenty five years)
Taino Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 ...I wouldn't use -at least for this kind of forum- Rob's shirts as a model... maybe for OTHER kind of forum...
Freefallguy Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I suggest a RAI N B O W scheme. It would be all inclusive of our multi national, multi cultural and multiple proclivities which would appeal to our favorite insanity laden transgender member.
kilroy Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Does anyone at least have a screen capture of the forum with the old colors to look at?
El Presidente Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 (for what it's worth, I've earned a living manipulating color and images for over twenty five years) Colt works at Costco Photo Centre. He was employee of the month twice last year so he knows what he is talking about.
El Presidente Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Does anyone at least have a screen capture of the forum with the old colors to look at? Hold off on this. Our men Jason and Daniel are back next week and will tone it down so you can put away the sunglasses. If you are advanced on some proposals, don't hold back and submit them.
