cabaiguan juan Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 So is the plan to battle the wild fires to have Koalas wet everything down? In the land of No Koalas we use Super Soakers.
jwm8592 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Wow that is an amazing photo, w/all the destruction and loss of life I basically forgot about all of the wildlife that has most likely been destroyed or forced from its habitat. Good luck to all in this and the surrounding areas.
Ken Gargett Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Saw this pic on a local website. amazing that it survivied the fires. the problem is what the hell will it now eat. can't be many leaves left.
Mel Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Do them things taste good? It looks awful tame for a wild animal do they let you fool with them like that often? I just don't see a thirsty deer round here holding your hand while you give it a drink.

I just don't see a thirsty deer round here holding your hand while you give it a drink. they can get very grumpy and scratch and bite though usually quite docile (smithy's nickname is koala) - captive ones (usually pose for photos curled up in tourists' arms) have been known to piss on a minister of the govt (something we all wished we could do). mel, if you were on your last legs, i suspect you'd do the same.
First Lady Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Koala's receives over 90% of its hydration from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves. ie during droughts or bush fires as the pictures show and now so many many have no food source... they are goregous animals and so many of them would have perished
asmith Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 amazing that it survivied the fires. the problem is what the hell will it now eat. can't be many leaves left. Leaves? I thought they were carnivores, feasted on small animals and humans, like their bigger brothers, the Drop Bear!
Trevor2118 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Leaves? I thought they were carnivores, feasted on small animals and humans, like their bigger brothers, the Drop Bear! Ahh...the dreaded Drop-Bear
Fuzz AI Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Ahh...the dreaded Drop-Bear Many a tourist have fallen victim to this reclusive creature... When camping, one must remember not to dress like a Wookie.
perfectform Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Just saw the photo this morning in the L.A. Times and it moved me. My heart goes out to all the victims of these fires and all you other "mates" down there.
cvm4 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Found the video: Looks like the same guy in the picture.

genevapics Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 If that picture doesn't tug at your heart, I do not know what will. Great picture. As the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Good luck with these fires.
