anacostiakat Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 We now know that the Obamas' have narrowed it down to a Labrodoodle (Lab-Poodle mix) and a Portugese Water Dog. Their reasoning is they want a non-alergic dog. That aside and the fact that I don't see them getting Chinese Shar-Pei which happens to be my breed; how about one of the new AKC breeds? Pyrenean Shepard is a funky looking dog that looks like it has tons of character. Or the Norwegian Buhund? Maybe the Irish Red and White Setter? What say you?
gostgost Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 There is only one dog to get and that is an Austrialian Shepard as I've had 2 of the Red Merles. The current one I had before I met my wife who was not dog friendly until she met my dog. Now she want another one. These dog are not only fun, friendly and a great working dogs but very protective and I never seen the protective side until one day another dog came charging my wife and my guy snapped and kicked ass.
tsolomon Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 If I had to choose between a Labrodoodle and a Portuguese Water Dog, it would be the Portuguese Water dog. If I can ignore the allergy issue, a Rhodesian Ridgeback would be my choice.
Punch Joe Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Dalmatians also kick ass but they need training.
Mel Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 All I saw on the TV was they were deciding between a white dog and a black dog. Did you see they were redecorating the place? I'm sure the White House is in poor shape needing some work.

I'm sure the White House is in poor shape needing some work. Well, you know if they don't spend that money, it won't be in the budget for the next time around. Nothing like spending taxpayer dollars in a recession to redecorate. Sorry for the Hijack. I didn't know there was a truly non-allergic dog breed.
Zaphod42 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 A Saluki would look nice roaming around the White House lawn.
Mel Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 If they are allergic to dogs why don't they get a cat?? Oops I guess cat is what got Clinton into trouble. I find all the hooplah over Obama a little over the top. If he was a real leader and was concerned about money he would forgo to the expensive dogs and leave the decor as is. Another politions full fo **** I say. Do I sound a little cynical?
Van55 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Dogs that have "hair" rather than "fur" tend not to shed and therefore are deemed to be less likely allergenic. Examples are Yorkshire Terriers, Bichon Frise and poodles. Because dog "hair" grows continuously as human hair does, these dogs need periodic trips to a groomer for haircuts.
Colt45 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I find all the hooplah over Obama a little over the top. I find it very similar to the cult of personality which surrounded Clinton, only amplified. As this borders on being political, which is not allowed here at FOH, that's all I'll say
shrink Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 It has a certain primitive charm, no? And I like the message that it would send to Republicans.
asmith Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 We could send Rob's dog Cohiba over there for them, I'm sure the Obama girls would love Cohiba's party trick or retrieving cigars from the Presidential humidor.
Ken Gargett Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I find it very similar to the cult of personality which surrounded Clinton, only amplified. As this borders on being political, which is not allowed here at FOH, that's all I'll say i think that is spot on. i mean really, does this great nation have nothing better to do than speculate on this? at the moment, obama could name his kids adolf etc and get away with it. expectations are just so high, no man can match them (it would be wonderful to think he could). then we'll have tears. seriously, what is going on over there? i saw a brief bit of news, correct me if i am wrong, where the bloke picked to run the treasury??? hasn't been paying taxes but obama wants him in cabinet so it is just a tiny mistake. the sort of tiny mistake that would put the rest of us in chokey. and this from the bloke who would no doubt sack any underling who did the same with his taxes. how long will this go on? what is next? a national debate on the colour of the new curtains?
SethG Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Well, you know if they don't spend that money, it won't be in the budget for the next time around. Nothing like spending taxpayer dollars in a recession to redecorate. I don't know, it seems cheap compared to the 140M the government is spending on the inauguration party. Remember when those were just little affairs? Now they're like Nazi rally's, with waving banners, millions of people and some sort of massive party. You know, like if every major pop star held a concert in times square for 21 days straight, then combine that into one major mega party. I can't imagine why anyone even cares what kind of dog they'll buy, but I imagine it'll be a mixed dog under 40 pounds and I doubt it'll be an AKC dog, likely it'll come from a pound.

Exactly, it's not really a political statement, it's just ridiculous. There's more attention being paid to whether or not his dog will come from a pound then whether or not his children will be going to public school, which is actually a very meaningful topic for the media to concentrate on.

He has a wife and two young girls. I think he has enough ***** in the house already. BTW, lets not turn this into a political thread.
brutusthebuckeye Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Pit Bulls with there vocal cords cut out......
anacostiakat Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Pit Bulls with there vocal cords cut out...... Maybe they should consult with Michael Vick. . .

Ken, you're spot on. Who cares about a damn dog? I think we'll all find out very soon the man of change, who has so far appointed pretty much all Clinton's friends, will not be changing anything at all and is just another politician. We're all going to hell in a handbasket and all the politicians want to do is print more money and bail out failed businesses. While stupid me pays my mortgage and credit card bills on time! I'd be better off claiming hardship and maybe the gov't would reduce the amount of my mortgage or forgive some of my debts.
Freefallguy Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 whether or not his children will be going to public school, which is actually a very meaningful topic for the media to concentrate on. Continuing a tradition among Washington's power elite, President-elect Barack Obama and his wife have decided to send their kids to Sidwell Friends School. Michelle Obama confirmed yesterday that Malia and Sasha, the incoming first daughters, will enroll at the pricey private school in January. [Richard Leiby, Washington Post Staff Writer]
Freefallguy Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 In a press conference he suggested they’d “Get a dog from the pound, because you know, he’d be kind of like me, a mutt.” So… if they did choose a pound puppy, and with his affable sense of humor, would it be a pejorative for him to call it “Mulatto”?
kjellfrick Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I think a mongrel dog would be just the thing!

[Richard Leiby, Washington Post Staff Writer] Classic, so let's see where does he stand on school vouchers to allow poor kids to get out of failing schools and into private schools?? Oh yeah, wait a minute! He'll buy a dog from the pound so that every one focuses on that instead of the private school.
buster Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I don't give a rat's patoot where his kids go to school or what pets he has and where he gets them from. Let's see how the guy governs and make a decision then. First, like a doctor, I'd like to see him "do no harm". Then I'd like to see if he can guide the country out of this economic morass and restore a bit of luster to our world postition. I'm not an Obama kool-aid quaffer nor a basher. I just don't care about his family school plans, pets, inauguration ball gowns, etc. I just want to see what he does. Rick
