ironpeddler Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 What dog to get?...a very small one. One that doesn't eat a lot, so... MY FREAKIN TAXES WON'T GO UP ANY HIGHER! BECAUSE THEY'LL PROBABLY FEED THE DAMN THING FILLET MIGNON AND BELUGA CAVIAR!
Chicago Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Don't get me started. Pols say one thing and do another. Mr. O, while I respect the man, EXCELS at this game. Pay attention not only to what he says, bu what he doesn't say. I wish him blessings, he will need them.
Freefallguy Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Gentlemen, gentlemen… what image do we offer those beyond our national borders when a benign musing on the selection of the First Canine topples onto a slippery slope that spirals downward into a quagmire of partisan politics. What respect does it proffer our esteemed Presidente, our benevolent dictator, when he sternly cautions us to avoid the same? Have we forgotten a voice of reason from a most tumultuous time in our recent history? “People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along? Can we get along? Can we stop making it, making it horrible for the older people and the kids? It’s just not right. It’s not right. It’s not, it’s not going to change anything. We’ll, we’ll get our justice....Please, we can get along here. We all can get along. I mean, we’re all stuck here for a while. Let’s try to work it out. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to work it out.” Rodney King- Orator, civil rights activist, diplomat (May 3rd, 1992)
Ken Gargett Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I don't give a rat's patoot where his kids go to school or what pets he has and where he gets them from. Let's see how the guy governs and make a decision then. First, like a doctor, I'd like to see him "do no harm". Then I'd like to see if he can guide the country out of this economic morass and restore a bit of luster to our world postition.I'm not an Obama kool-aid quaffer nor a basher. I just don't care about his family school plans, pets, inauguration ball gowns, etc. I just want to see what he does. Rick first, agree completely - if he performs, fantastic. the problem i see is that you can anything you like that his spin doctors are flogging this dog issue as hard and far as possible. let's make him such a nice guy that no one can dislike him, no matter how bad things get. if it were just insurance in case things went worse, fine, but i suspect that he runs a PR team that would make even rudd's look amateur.
Jimmy2 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 This Dog thing is stupid who cares I just care about the economy getting better for our country and providing for my family even better with more $$ in my pocket. I hope Obama does well i really do and he stays focused on things that really matter for the country where we can all benift.
Colt45 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Sigh................here goes............ The fact that he's appointed Clinton as secretary of state tells me all I need to know - they hate(d) each other. Is she qualified for the job? I don't know, but I'm assuming it's a typical maneuver to win over Clinton supporters and their ilk. If it's a matter of keep your friends close, enemies closer, for me that makes it quite selfish - just another politician - show some guts. Some speak of a new hope, a new beginning - I don't buy it. I hold out little hope.

A quick re-read of the thread shows a group of people speaking indpendently of party about their hopes and fears for a new presidential era.
buster Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 first, agree completely - if he performs, fantastic. the problem i see is that you can anything you like that his spin doctors are flogging this dog issue as hard and far as possible. let's make him such a nice guy that no one can dislike him, no matter how bad things get. if it were just insurance in case things went worse, fine, but i suspect that he runs a PR team that would make even rudd's look amateur. Yes, but this is really not a bad rap on Obama... all pols have spin-meisters and PR. It's a rap on Americans and the media (and the world, in as much as they cover the story). The media keeps asking about it, the PR machine will just keep feeding it. I wish they'd have the stones to just say "c'mon guys, it's a dog, you'll see it when they get it. Do you have any questions about anything important?" And everyone's local news programs will then play a 3 minute piece about it every other day, along w/ all the fluff and program promotions they "report" in the daily half-hours. Instead of news, they should just call it "Disasters, oddities, and celebrity entertainment." Its all the dumbing down of America and the creation of a People/Us/Enquirer/Jerry Springer/Fake "Reality" Show/Celebrity as news society. I don't blame any individual politician for that... maybe all of them as a whole, but it's the people putting up w/ it and the media feeding it as well. It would be refreshing for one of them (a pol) to stand up and tell the people they're all acting like idiots. Of course that doesn't do much for your chances of getting elected or staying in office.Rick
shrink Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Obama finally got a dog to entertain his kids!
Mel Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Shrink that's funny right there. This morning on the news they were asking young blacks who would be more influential Obama or the teen pop start 50 Cent. WOW what chioces??? This thread political?? How could you have a thread about a US president and not expect political undertones? Now lets talk about the new concerns over what Mrs Obama will wear to the ball.
