Future of Political Threads

Recommended Posts

I was really hoping political threads could be handled in a mature and respectful way. The majority do but then there are those one or two who confuse abuse and denigration with passion.

I love talking and discussing politics. However not when discussions eat away at the fabric of community which we have developed over the years.

Political threads are now done. Unless I break my own rule ;-)

I agree as some people have to attack others character when they dont agree on something than its hard to play nice.

Hey i dont agree on everything but i never attack the one's who post in a political thread here.

Its the lack of experience with voting that sometimes plays with people emotions that makes them say things they usually wound not.

As some voters mature they will really understand in time that all politics are a joke and both parties will wish you the world but never deliver and this time its no difference.

Heck i find all the posts amusing and will miss them dearly but some have to go over the line and ruin it for others.

Like we have a poker tournament, we should have some kind of forum boxing ring or arm wrestle equivolent to settle differences or a new meaning to the word cigar bomb. Of course I am just being beligerent as I think it is a shame when gloves come off in public between forum members.

Cigars smoking etc is meant to be a gentlemanly dispute sorry pursuit so let's keep it that way.

I will close this one down as not much else really needs to be added.

I am disappointed to do so. If you noted the initial political posts they sought member opinion and open respectful discussion. There were some cracker posts which were succinct and insightful and from all sides of the political spectrum. However I could see the clouds forming with the arrival of Palin  Out the window went open respectful discussion. Back to the drawing board ;-)

oh lighten up (though of course you, as always, have my full support).

would it not be better to allow them, as there are obviously a lot of us who enjoy them and who can learn from them and are interested to get insight from locals, in this case those on the ground in the states as we approach this election, but in other cases it will be from different countries, but as soon as anyone oversteps the mark they are banned from the forum for a month or two. easy to do and would surely allow the benefits and sift out idiots. everyone is happy. everyone wins.

(please send my nobel peace prize to snake heaven, brookfield).

I'd had thoughts along the same lines, but then you mods become even greater baby sitters than

you've unfortunately had to be.

In the years I've been here, that's not been the FOH way. It is unfortunate and just a bit sad that

there will be any kind of limit on what would be considered "normal" discussion.

Colt, I nor Ken nor yourself nor 99% of people have a problem. I don't feel the need to babysit a discussion for the odd time someone loses it and forgets where they are. If we were in a bar I can look you in the eye and tell you to "pull your head in". Difficult to do here. There have been some less than proud moments over the last few days from members I respect. If they can't define the line of decent intelligent discussion then I can't expect newcomers to rise to a higher plane.
