Chicago Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 My benevolent mega employer just laid off a bunch of saps like myself after a poor quarter of earnings, how nice. What should I smoke to celebrate?
SmokinAl Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Sorry to hear Chicago. How about smoking the HR department?...

android Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 » What should I smoke to celebrate? The best you have!! And many adult beverages my man. Sorry to hear that...very scary and uneasy feeling, I have lived through a few RIF's myself...most recently last October...my company, based in your home city (A---tt) deceided to slash 110 sales reps. Got to keep those stock holders happy ya know. Good luck and stay positive.
El Presidente Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 » My benevolent mega employer just laid off a bunch of saps like myself after » a poor quarter of earnings, how nice. » What should I smoke to celebrate? I am so sorry mate. I know amongst members you are not Robinson Crusoe at the moment. When faced with lifes traumatic moments I like to have the best cigar I own and drink the finest wine /Champagne I have. People say you don't find answers in a bottle but it sure throws up some interesting questions. It is just a game mate and you have been benched. You will be back on shortly.

I personally resigned last week and since then, I'm smoking the best cigars I have and drink Champagne and... go to the gym to be back in shape ;-) ... to be able to drink more Champagne :-D !!! Keep faith!
zuma Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 » My benevolent mega employer just laid off a bunch of saps like myself after a poor quarter of earnings, how nice. What should I smoke to celebrate? Sorry to hear that... as suggested before, fire up your best. I reckon though (based on mates' prior experiences), that it is often best to retrench, re-evaluate yourself and your opportunities and relaunch yourself, rather earlier than latter... as often happens that those that stay employed in struggling companies have to double up their work, put up with more sh*t, and may end up without retrenchment compo...
kilroy Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Sorry to hear about your work status. While I've never been laid off I have been out right sh*tcanned and sent ass first out of my bosses office more than once. In those situations treating myself has always let me visualize what I need to do to continue enjoying what is best in life. Good luck and keep your chin up. PS... what IS best in life?... hearing the lamentations of the womyn.. of course!

gostgost Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 That sucks Chicago hope you are back in the game sooner than later........................... Dave.
IShotAManInReno Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Every time I have been laid off, it took some time, but eventually I realized that it was the best thing that ever happened to me. That's because each time I ultimately found a better job than the one I had before. Therefore, I'd suggest you smoke your second-best now. Save the best smoke for after you've landed your next job. That will be a time for more celebration.
KB24 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I had been trying to get fired from my old position for months and finally after leaving July 3rd at lunch time without telling anyone it happened. I was so excited that I went right home and had a Cohiba Siglo III. Good luck with everything. -Patrick
MaltPointer Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 » My benevolent mega employer just laid off a bunch of saps like myself after » a poor quarter of earnings, how nice. » What should I smoke to celebrate? Crikey! Well, I have a couple of Monte A's headed my way from Oz; if you wait for them to settle down, we can smoke 'em together. Be well, friend . . . and I'll talk to you soon.
Colt45 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Best wishes to you. Smoke your most reliable - the one that always makes you happy.
sepp Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 » What should I smoke to celebrate? Smoke a good one and get yourself in the frame of mind that your next step will be better than the last, and the good one will remind you of your goals... good luck Chicago!
demiurgic Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Sounds like you are happy you got laid off! Hell man, In that case, smoke the best your humi's got! Personally, I cannot focus on a good cigar when business is not taken care of. I have not worked for someone else for years now and would rather have a menial job like washing dishes than a heart attack from high stress and a goofy boss. (I almost died of a high stress/good money job at 29, and was almost "gone" for a few minutes according to my ex) Actually, this was in Chicago as well! In the words of my friend, who told me 2 weeks ago when was going to file for bankruptcy (this affected our little gourmet food business in a big way), "when one door closes, another one opens" Believe me, I'm taking his advice to heart right now. Hope it works for you. Aloha bro, Demiurgic
Tampa1257 Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 All the best, you are joined by many good people unfortunately. Smoke one that puts you into a good and positive mood!:-P
Guest Warren Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 The finest marijuana that money can buy. All jokes aside , best wishes and I truly hope fortune smiles on you very soon .

Chicago Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 » You have all been very kind. For some reason, I feel confident this time around after having been through hell a the old place. I feel as though I can do anything. BTW, I did smoke an R&J short churchill and they have come around finally. Perhaps a sign that things have changed and are getting better? Who the crap knows??!! What I do know is that people are coming out of the wood work to offer advice and assistance and support and it is a great feeling, come what may. As my mom used to say, if you have your health, you have everything. That's all I ask for. The rest I can figure out. Thanks for all of the kind words. :-) Chicago
