cigarros
In april 2008 I talked to Head of Habanos S.A. Russia (Infifon II) senor Ernesto Gonsalez. Has asked him about regional series for Germany 2009. Habanos S.A. through "5-th Avenue" (importeur in Deutcshland) has given to Germans an opportunity to choose those cigars which will enter into this series. Bolivar – 109 EL CONDE – 184x50 Bolivar – DELICADOS – 192x38 Ramon Allones – SALOMON – 184x57 Por Larrañaga – PIRAMIDES – 156x52 Ramon Allones – EDMUNDO – 135x52 Por Larrañaga – CAMPANAS – 140x52 Sancho Panza – PIRAMIDES – 156x52 Bolivar – CORONAS – 142x42 La Gloria Cubana – SPORTS – 117x35 Ramon Allones – ENTREACTOS – 100x30 (source - artofsmoke.de) Germans have voted for Bolivar – 109 EL CONDE & Bolivar – DELICADOS. Earlier I did not hear, that Habanos S.A. gives such information. I have asked Ernesto Gonsalez why Habanos does not do it for Russia? He has promised to transfer our wishes to the management of h.s.a. Other cigars most likely will appear in ER 2009 for other countries. Let's look! Ken Gargett
interesting post. i'd have been keen to see the LGC Sports and the PL Pyramides. i am so off salamones (unless they are hamlet's) after the cuaba disasters though i would be a bit leery of going that route. the germans have certainly gone big and heavy. a wonderful english winewriter from the 1940's famously once declared that germans liked everything heavy, except their beer and their fingers. he later became a famous barrister. (and yes, the views expressed in this forum are not necessaily those of the management, or even the poster).

tigger
Might have to get a box of the Bolivar Delicados, just because they sound like something I would enjoy. Irks me a little to see Bolivar Coronas on that list. Cutting a classic vitola from the marca and then re-offering it three years later as an ostensibly more expensive ER doesn't sit right somehow. I guess we're living in an age where thinner ring gauge cigars are becoming a specialty item. :-( I suppose that's better than having them disappear altogether... edited because I can't seem to spell or grammatize. My thought exactly - actually it irks me more than just a little. If these are released, I hope whomever considers buying them at least gets dinner first. And I agree on the Delicados - that's an RE I might actually consider - but I'd still be hard pressed.
tcampbel
The thing that Im worried about is when it will all end> HSA needs to draw a line in the sand and say 10 ERs a year and 5 LEs. They keep doubling the numbers and it is getting rediculus. I keep hoping that the quality of the normal ranges will drop because so many of the higher level rollers are rolling these limited cigars. I say lower production alittle on these "Limited" smokes so that they sell out every year. Is it just me or if a cigar is limited it should sell out every year. You can easily find LEs and REs online and at stores around the world going back to 2002. maybe if they sold out they could slowly release them over the year instead of having to wait until july or august like this year. I'm not sure people like us - the internet buyers - are the most important people to the financial calculations of HSA. Don't you think that most of the boxes will be sold over the counter in respective countries or regions? That would make pouring out special editions in higher numbers a much more viable strategy, and I'm pretty sure (read I'm guessing) they make a good profit on them even if they aren't totally sold out. El Presidente
Good point Kjell. Most B&M's are struggling. They do need special releases to maintain stock sex appeal. I would be happier with one (12 month license) Regional Release. No re-release. 3 LE releases a year is fine. Spread them Mar, Jun, Sept. The Regional Release October. Book releases and humidors April, May, August. It couldn't be that hard As an aside within the Asia Pacific we are asked to nominate future RR. Once confirmed the larger sub distributors also nominate likely volume. Smart business sense as the distributors have to pay upfront ;-)

Of the 17 proposed RE's for 2008 how many will actually be released (in 2008) ? Seems like somewhere I did see a list of confirmed RE's for 2008? Anyone else see this? Better yet, remember what's on it?
