El Presidente Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Seriously...I want to know. What are you using or have you used in terms of cutters and lighters that have been bulletproof. What do you swear by?
Hugomarink Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 » Seriously...I want to know. What are you using or have you used in terms of » cutters and lighters that have been bulletproof. What do you swear by? I have an original Blazer Torch lighter from 1998 that still works perfectly. Great lighter IMO. I also still have my Davidoff cutter that I got around the same period. Still works like a charm. My cigar paraphenalia hasn't changed much over the past decade.
mkz Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Xikar Xi2 cutter and an old Vietnam-Zippo with Z-plus torch insert. Works like a charm!
BlackFriar Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Xikar cutters and the new ex lighter (not a jet flame but near impossible to blow out in a wind) At home I have a torch for creme brule that instantly and evenly chares the foot. I tend not to have burn issues later on when I use this torch. Always fun watching friends try to light cigarettes using this beast :-D
scroggers Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 RIght now I'm using what looks like a blazer rip off torch lighter that was gifted to me with the name guang da on the side. It erally works great and holds a lot of fluid and has a clear body so I can always tell when it needs filled up. as for a cutter I recently lost my xikar so I've been using a palio which is nice and sharp and is good for clipping just the cap and nothing else.:-)
Colt45 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I use my trusty Schrade Old Timer pocket knife to remove the cap. Though I did have to send it in to be fixed soon after purchase, the Blazer PB-207 has always worked since.
JMH Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I use a knife blade on a swiss army knife - razor sharp, and much easier to remove just the cap, and a prince lighter. I tried to find a photo of the lighter on the web, but too many disturbing photos of prince (the musician) came up, so there's no photo.

I just retired my Davidoff guillotine cutter after 10 or 11 years of flawless performance. The action just started to get loose and the blades were getting duller and duller as I could only touch up, not do a full re-profiling. I replaced it with a Palio that was given to me but my preferred cutter is my Benchmade pocketknife. My "childlock-free" original Blazer PB-207 Microtorch is still going strong after as many years. Nothing but Vector has ever gone into this lighter. It's a real gem. Wilkey
mef Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Prez, Xikar and Blazer torch. However I find the Blazer torch playing some tricks (need to light a few times) during colder evenings in NZ. mef
shortsqueeze Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 » Seriously...I want to know. What are you using or have you used in terms of » cutters and lighters that have been bulletproof. What do you swear by? Most reliable is seriously my fingernail. I've been let down time after time by expensive cutters. Palio, Xikar, no good in my opinion. I've had success with a little single blade cutter made by Pacific Handy Cutter but wouldn't you know they don't make it anymore, of course. As for lighters, I own quite a few, expensive ones and not so expensive. My go-to is the Dupont Xtend. Been going strong for about 5 years now.
marco polo Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I'm pretty cheap with the cigar accessories, but I use a $2 plug cutter from JR and a $10 triple torch Tiger lighter. They have lasted for some time now . :-)
havanaclub7 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 » dupont x-tend ( 7 YEARS OLD ) » » ZINO cutter Ditto! I got my X-Tend last year and love it! I think I could start welding with that thing if I had to. I've had the same Zino cutter for the past 7 years.
broozer Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 i use the xikar multi tool. it folds up small enough that i can hardly tell it's in my pocket and it cuts as clean as any other xikar. once they came out with the new design (that sucks) i bought about 3-4 of the old ones for back ups. bruce
Alberto Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 » Seriously...I want to know. What are you using or have you used in terms of » cutters and lighters that have been bulletproof. What do you swear by? My Xikar and Dupont Xtend for the past 5~6 years. They have been indeed bulletproof. Alberto
gpg Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Xikar (any model) cutter and Dupont Xtend have bben working great for 5 years. Only ones I've never had a problem with.
sandholm Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 » Seriously...I want to know. What are you using or have you used in terms of » cutters and lighters that have been bulletproof. What do you swear by? S.T.Dupont Line 2 best out there, also have an X-tend but I dont like the torch, easy to "burn" the foot while toasting. For cutting I use a Round Cutter from Davidoff and a guillotine from Zine. cheers Anders

matt14 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 » like a blazer rip off torch lighter with the name guang da on the side. I pick up these, 2 for about 3 bucks from the streeet vendors, work really well and dont bat an eyelid if they get lost. I bought a Porsche lighter last year but never leaves the house in fear of leaving on a table somewhere,. Cutter wise, always used to be my Xikar until I left it on a table a couple months back. Been using a cheap arsed single blade cutter that I got as a freebie, suprising works really well!!!

I've got one of the "Guang da" blazer ripoffs too, works as good as any other, but what's in my pocket everyday is an old zippo with a Z-plus insert, and I use a cheap $2 punch.
lfg2nrg Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I use a Dupont Extend I have had trouble free for several years.
n2advnture Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 » Seriously...I want to know. What are you using or have you used in terms of » cutters and lighters that have been bulletproof. What do you swear by? The most consistently reliable cutter has been my Palio, going on 9 years as my "go to" and cuts as good as ever. As far a lighters go, the key is a REALLY clean fuel (5x refined). I would estimate that 90% of lighter problems can be directly attributed to "dirty fuel" that clogs the jet. With that said, the most reliable ones I have found so far: S.T. Dupont - Ligne 1, Ligne 2, Gatsby, D & X-tend torch Blazer - PB-207 Solo - Trek Honorable mention: Xikars. The German made ones from years past were EXCELLENT, the current production ones are still REALLY good, it just depends on if you like the scissor like "action". I hope this helps ~Mark
Loki Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I use a Prometheus folding cigar scissor. It works very well. Since you chooose to only remove the cap on most occasions, it does a spot on job in that department. It cuts torpedoes equally well. http://www.prometheuskkp.com/products/cutters/cutter-s.htm I like old school matches but I have a Xikar lighter.
