Ginseng Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 » Fired up the foot and immediately there was Black and white pepper in » droves. The strength was off the radar. Full in body. Fantastic review, Rob and you've got me wanting for another box. :-D Wilkey
asmith Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Wow Rob you are loosing it, your review quality anyway. For such an overpowering cigar not one comparison to an untamed women from South America, the use of the word "Dank" or even a good sporting metaphor? I look forward to you returning to your fine form soon.
Digi Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Haha, thanks for putting this together Rob That is certainly a different experience when compared to the one I emailed you about. I wonder if there is much variation between boxes... can't wait to try my last one ;-)
Tampa1257 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Yes, Rob showing off again, what a Mild cigar the Cazadore is................. Just ask Sir Diggamus or Professor Twain about their Introduction to this vitola, Sir Diggamus blew groceries I believe half way and Professor Twain wanted so much to show everyone that he had a pair, but was turning green and was making excusses about not eating before stopping by............. RyJ Cazadores, I love them!!!!
brian1 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I think they make this cigar for peopel like my brother in law who has damaged sinuses and cant taste anything unless its off the charts spicy. I am sure he would fully enjoyed this type of cigar!
smokum Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I did not get any tannins when I smoked a couple last week. But it's definitely a shotgun blast of a cigar. The aroma is powerful, the smoke is powerful, these things actually dare you to smoke them...I like them. Seems like when you reach for one you are saying "Go ahead...make my day" !
Mel Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I have both kinds of the Cazadores but never one like Rob described. I am not one for the mellow girly sticks but I do like some flavors mixed in with my poison.
Moglman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Interesting experience Rob, and a great review as always. On Monday, I smoked one from a CLO OCT 02 box. The wrapper had significantly paled from the dark brown I remember, and after a initial nasal and palate assault, this settled into a very smooth and full bodied smoke.
bassman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I love RyJ Cazadores, but they can be, shall we say, a little rough when fresh. A fresh 04 was painfully strong, yet after 2 years settled down to be only medium bodies smoke. On the opposite side, my box of 99s are now smooth instead of rough, but still one of the strongest cigars I've ever smoked.
hoyopr Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 » It was in no way a pleasant smoking experience. It was however an » experience. One I have no intention to replicate for some time. Lovely, I ordered 4 singles of this from Lisa last week with the same box code. I'm new and trying various cigars I've read about but now you tell me these shouldn't be tried for 5 to 10 years, I'll put them at the bottom of the foot locker with the 04 Monte Esp #2 I ordered last month which were tannin bombs as well, and write a review in 2011.
shrink Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 This was a great review! God, I love to hear people suffer! I've had 'em all across the spectrum. Medium, strong, and way off the friggin' Richter scale. It's all good. I have to be in the mood for one of these, and have lots of cold drinks on hand. Then it's fun. The late '05 and early '06 are the best I've ever had, correcting for age that is. Lots of body, lots of flavor, lots of Caz attitude, but surprisingly approachable. These are classics.
Jimmy2 Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Your all a bunch of women i can smoke these all day with no problems now i have to get a couple of new ones to put it to the test. Lisa !!!!
matt14 Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 A friend picked up a box for me with the same box code, first out was loose , burnt hot piece of crap. If there was a fith horseman of the apocalypse then that little brown monster was it!!. Totally nailed me!!
56Tweed Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I really enjoyed that review Rob! Good to read it was a real kicker!
Guibou Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I have 2 boxes of '99 in my humidors... I could not resist and i broke one to try them out during the Holidays... Mama mia! Fantastic nose, exquisite smoke, lucky for us we smoked it after a 'quite' heavy lunch ;-) . For sure another 5 years won't be a problem for those... maybe it will be for me to wait that long :-D !!! El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 When people ask what is the strongest cigar produced in Cuba....the Romeo y Julieta Cazadores is invariably amongst the first listed by members. I have had strong Cazadores and medium bodied Cazadores, straight plain tobacco Cazadores and Cazadores with a ripe fruit complexity. Lately I have thought that the Cazadores have been toned down a little in terms of power and are not the powerhouses people make them out to be. Then I came across Romeo y Julieta Cazadores UGT ABR 07 Exhibit A The above cigar should be put up on "Assault and Battery" charges. It looked dark and menacing from the box. It had what could only be described as a "rustic" construction which looked like a patchwork quilt. The "Frankenstein" of Habanos cigars. It wasn't pretty but it looked menacing. Smell at cold was a mix of dung and tobacco. Reminded me of a junior school tour to a piggery in Dalby. Cut the cap and there was a pure tobacco taste through an over easy draw. Fired up the foot and immediately there was Black and white pepper in droves. The strength was off the radar. Full in body. Tannins everywhere. Reached for water and waited .....and waited....and waited for it to settle down. The aroma from the plentiful smoke can only be described as "Rank". Minismithy, Diana and Lisa all took turns in coming to the deck to ask exactly what I was smoking. Minismithy described the aroma as acrid. Diana described it as putrid. Cohiba moved away. Lisa laughed at the expression on my face and got me another glass of water. This cigar was STRONG. I can describe the flavours as Black Pepper, White Pepper and Charcoal. It had a tannin bite which both made the head swoon, the body sweat and sucked every bit of moisture out of your mouth. It was both hideous and intrigueing. It was the cigar version of running your hand through a flame. I wanted to pitch it but couldn't. I was committed to the review but also wanted to see how long I could hold on. Can't....Hold....on.....much.....longer. This thing is Kryptonite. While I get weaker it gains in strength. I purge the cigar and it laughs at me. It taunts with a tannin bite which makes me reach repeatedly for water. It is prickly in the mouth...I swear it was blended with Tobasco. I exhale through the nose and fear for my nasal cavity. The white pepper actually stings. A quick note to the blender....you are one sick son of a ***** I pretended to finish it with 2 inches left so I was only fooling myself. The Cazadores did not vary in flavour, body or intensity. It started like a bull at at gate and never tired. It was in no way a pleasant smoking experience. It was however an experience. One I have no intention to replicate for some time. How these age is anyone's guess but I suspect they will age exceptionally well. Give them the best part of 5 years and probably 10.
