genevapics Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 I need some recommendations for a light, easy going cigar for these hot, hazy days of summer that are fast approaching. Complexity is welcome, but not a must. I saw the Czar's recommendation of the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1. Sounds like it might fit the bill. Any other recommendations? I prefer thin gauge cigars, but am open to anything. Thanks.
nugget Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 I would recommend a Cohiba Siglo III, not too sure how the current stock is, I heard they have increased in strength, but in the past I have found them a great afternoon cigar. Otherwise I would spark up maybe a Monte 3 or 4, because I am very impartial to Montecristo and could enjoy one anytime.
habanohal Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 Would take Bolivar anytime I am undesisive. I have never been let down with one ( as to a bum Monty #2) Royal Corona or Tubos #1, #2

Light and easy going--here are some suggestions: Cohiba Exquisitos Dip 4 or 5 ERDM Demi Tasse Hoyo des Dieux La Gloria Medaille d'or #1 Por Larranaga Panatellas Punch Margaritas Punch Super Selection #1 Punch Petit Punch Quai D'Orsay Coronas Claros San Cristobal El Principe Trinidad Reyes Makes we want to go have one.
Moglman Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 Had an 05 Quai D'Orsay Corona last night. Not the first stick I'd normally grab, but was very pleasant and fit the evening sun and mood. Some good cinnamon, honey and leather notes. I need to try the Grand Corona again.
shrink Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 I saw the Czar's recommendation of the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1. Funny, but JLP #! was exactly what I thought when I saw the thread. You know, Ken is right.... El Prez does get 'em right sometimes.

Good God in Heaven, you consider a Punch SS#1, the SCdH El Principe, and Trinidad Reyes as LIGHT? That boggles my mind.

In contrast to many Partagas, Bolivar, Ramon Allones, and Montecristo, yes, these are on the light side to me. I think of them as full flavored, but not as strong. I have a chart that was sent to me by a Board member when I was starting out that classifies Cuban cigars by strength--not sure of the original source--that might be of interest in discussing strength. Overall Cigar Brand Strengths Mild Fonseca - Guantanamera - Hoyo de Monterrey - Quai d'Orsay - Rafael Gonzalez - Mild - Medium El Ray del Mundo - Gispert - H Upmann - Por Larranaga - San Cristobal - Troya Medium Belinda - Cohiba (Siglo line) Flor de Cano - La Gloria Cubana - Punch - Quintero - Romeo y Julieta - Sancho Panza - Trinidad Medium - Full Cohiba (classic line) - Cuaba - Diplomaticos - Jose L Piedra - Juan Lopez - Los Statos de Luxe - Montecristo - Vegas Robaina Full Bolivar - Cabanas - Partagas - Ramon Alones - Saint Luis Rey - Vegueros
Ginseng Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Andre, The cigars in this category that hit the spot for me are: QdO Coronas ERdM Lunch Club, Petit Coronas LGC MdO 1, 3, 4 Fonseca Delicias I don't care much for the Sancho Panza, Rafael Gonzalez, or Juan Lopez profiles but there might be cigars in those marcas that appeal to you. Wilkey
El Presidente Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Sultry hot afternoons....thunderstorm building in the distance, cicada's making a racket....cold beer or cisp white wine. Juan Lopez Seleccion No 1. Sancho Panza Belicoso Hoyo De Monterrey Le Hoyo Du Dieux Sancho Panza Non Plus San Cristobal La Punta San Cristobal Principe Monte 4 La Gloria Cubana Tainos
Mel Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 HDM du Gormet is a great thin gauge medium bodied cigar to suit the summer occasion.
genevapics Posted June 4, 2007 Author Posted June 4, 2007 Thank you for all of the suggestions. Great list of cigars.
bassman Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Light & easygoing? How about a Fonseca #1 or SLR Churchill. Both should be very satisfying. As for the MdeO #1, an excellent cigar, but my 97s are quite strong. I've had a few 99s that are lighter but still quite tasty.
broozer Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 i'll repeat what i said at ICC: SP molino or QDO corona. :-D bruce
CoryOllis Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Wow, great thread! Ah, summertime! Of course, down under it's a whole other story!
