El Presidente Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I am a big fan of eating while smoking a fine cigar. To me it fine tunes the flavours in the cigar. Each day I roll out a little smorgasboard with my tasting cigar which comprises; a selection of cheeses, BBQ Pimiento's, artichokes, capers, anchovies, white flesh nectarines and a few grapes. The uniquitous bottle of red wine is never far away. To me it is a sensual mix...almost biblical experience. When I get carried away I will add a few squares of fine dark swiss chocolate. Does anyone else enjoy a cigar with food?
VigorishSLC Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I definitely enjoy a nice assortment of tapas from time to time while smoking. Lately I've been exploring the complementary relationships between tea and cigars.
BigSlick Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Smoked a Dip 4 with a death by chocolate brownie and a glass of 10yr port wine after a 24 oz bone in ribeye on my anny. They all blended very nicely together. Too bad it was the last time I will be able to smoke a cigar in a steakhouse here.

Colt45 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 While I have done it, I don't really favor it. And I still am truly surprised that so many seem to enjoy red wine with cigars. Red wine and chocolate - one of the greatest combinations known to man. Cigars and chocolate - not so much........

Biblical in the Sodom and Gomorrah sense. Don't get excited....that is not sodomy. And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great *****, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. Revelation 19.1

Dont worry prez I know exactly what you mean, almost a sin to be enjoying one's food wine and tobacco. God might strike you down for enjoying yourself and your earthly delights too much! I would like to, but haven't yet tried some nice rich Chorizo sausage with a cigar...it would be a nice mix I think. Cheeses have been done and with a nice red go down all to well.

DrAlejandro Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Ill go with chocolate... also some pastelitos (cuban pastries) and coffee fails. Im pretty much a sweet vs. savory guys when it comes to cigars :-D
broozer Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 i love a good cigar with a good meal. just last night i enjoyed a well cooked burger with grilled red peppers, avacados, provolone cheese, smoked bacon, some sweet potato french fries all accompanied by a HDM EPI #1. fantastic combination! desert was a juan lopez obus and a glass of rum w/ lime. :-D bruce

Im with you Colt45. Never liked the way red or white wine paired with a cigar. Now Champagne is a different story. I love the two together. I do love tapas as well with a cigar. In fact, they just opened a very swanky tapas restaurant down the street from me that has a martini/cigar bar. I will be a fixture there.
Well Armed Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I love food while smoking. Salami, chocolate, cheese, crackers, a sandwhich - whatever! No red wine though I find it clashes if too tannic. I don't like white wine at all but LOVE red. go figure.
anacostiakat Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I don't like to eat and smoke. I drink and smoke. Eat and then drink and smoke.
Mel Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 » I don't like to eat and smoke. » » I drink and smoke. Eat and then drink and smoke. Yes to the above. Eat and Smoke??? WTF do you smoke and screw at the same time to??? A good cigar stands alone and commands that all the senses be devoted to it. I do not even drink with a cigar.
Colt45 Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 » I do not even drink with a cigar. my condolences.
Wiley Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 The first thing about chorizo is, I have to get past the picture of cow intestines hanging from a clothes line in my great-grandmother's kitchen... After that, if you really fry the **** out of them, chorizo and good coffee will go great for a late Spanish style breakfast. If you're eating outside, why not throw in a nice little petit corona?
El Presidente Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 A good cigar stands alone and commands that all the senses be » devoted to it. I do not even drink with a cigar. A great cigar stands alone. That is when you stop what you were doing and focus intently on the divine puro in your hand. I have done this many times.....where the cigar has moved from being an important player in an enjoyable ensemble to the Diva on stage delivering a stunning performance under the spotlight, crowd hushed, time standing still and you in absolute awe . A cigar must earn this respect. If good enough it will reach in, grab you by the heart and DEMAND complete attention. I am always happy to give it.....but it must merit it first. ;-)

I just don't enjoy the food as well when I am smoking. As to drinking there are some beverages better than others of course and I like coffee or Vita Malt with my cigars.
CelticBasque Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 » Does anyone else enjoy a cigar with food? I enjoy a cigar with food, preferably something salty or spicy to snack on, which isn't a stretch when you're surrounded by TexMex restaurants!! :-P One of my favorite combinations is a bowl of good roasted (or smoked) almonds with a bourbon and a smoke. Another favorite is (and this may sound like blasphemy to some) a decent pizza, several pints of Guinness or ESB and a smoke. I think the favorability with pizza has to do with the cheeeeeeeese! :-D
CWS Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 My favorite has always been a fine Swiss Chocolate, like Succhard.
