Freefallguy Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 El P’s idea of creating an offsite storage is a great one and will serve us all well. However, I noticed some of the posts there indicate a fear of the Mrs. having issues with their collection. I’m curious, has anyone ever had their wife or significant other trash their stash? I’ve thought about it and as a prophylactic measure I've recently established a coolidor at my office for the aging stock. Is any one else taking safe cigar measures? What do you do?
Colt45 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Quite honestly, if I had to be that concerned, there would be no point in being married. Keeping such secrets is a recipe for disaster.
habanohal Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 That is one that boggles me always. I now store over 2300 cigars. My cabinets have glass fronts to see through. Fed Ex, or packages are here daily through the mail which wife puts on the table. She sees me open, inspect, and put away. She even sees when I remove all boxes and rearrange my cabinets. Yet still she says nothing at all except " more cigars" She doesnt ( I think) Know the value of each box, and yet with more arriveing daily, says nothing. Even my brother has brought up that when I am dead, he gets my cigars. LOL She has heard him saying " how can you have over $25k in cigars.......yet she says nothing. To all that......I will not ask, not anything else. Just leave it be ;-)
Mel Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 There may be a few reasons not to have all your eggs in one basket but fear of the wife detroying them is not one for me. That much disrespect for a spouses property means you are ready for divorce and if you are that close then by all means get the **** outta there.
Tiny Tim Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Luckily, my wife enjoys cigars with me!!!! Of course, she doesn't smoke quite as many as me, or know the exact amount they cost, but she doesn't say much about them! Sometime's I hear her say something like "you under a thousand yet?" :-D

If I felt I had to move my cigars or fear for their well-being, I would have to ask myself about the levels of trust and respect in my relationship. Luckily, my wife supports my interest. She will taste what I am smoking and, about once or twice a year, join me with her own smoke. She always asks about what I'm been smoking. Is it any good? Where is it from, etc. And she has never asked about how much I spend . . . and she is the sole "bread winner" in our family.
Great King Rat Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 My wife just plain out hates cigar smell on my clothes and breath. So when I get more cigars than usual, she makes comments such as "Great, more ASSTray smell". It is never about money and she has never made any suggestion that she is going to throw them out or anything. She knows they are very close to my heart and she respects that. I try my best to stay within my budget too, I do not give her any more reasons to be anti cigars. Do I think she wants me to stop buying cigars, Yes. I can feel her body language when she says "oh another box showed up for you today" Maybe she is just jealous of my collection:-D
anacostiakat Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 The good and the bad of it? My wife smokes cigars. :-D
shrink Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I’ve thought about it and as a prophylactic measure .... Not a bad idea... how does your wife like a Double Corona in a condom?

Is that like a chocolate dildo? I told my wife about this post at lunch and she said she would have to be pretty mad to do something like that. I told her that would be like me taking an axe to the dinning room suit and china. We decided to respect each others "junk".

Keeping such secrets is a recipe for disaster. You guys crack me up… we’re talking about women here, highly emotional entities or as Spock would have it, "most illogical beings". If there’s any who thinks he’s beyond the wrath of his female mate, or splitsville for that matter, you’re ready for a dip in “da Nile”.

Personally, I harbor no such illusions. But one of the fastest routes to "splitsville" is to practice deception. If it feels like I'm doing something wrong, chances are I'm doing something wrong.....
Smokin Bulldog Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 My wife never really says anything about what or how much I buy, she even take the time to ask if i am enjoying a cigar when I am smoking, even though I know she could care less. But, what she CANNOT understand is why I buy cigars and wait 2 years before I smoke one.
wp2 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 If my wife says anything about my cigars, I just remind her about her gazillion pairs of shoes.
puros71 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 My wifes from Havana Cuba so puros are part of her culture. She dont mind me smoking except that I do it outside the house.
ccsmoker Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I just let my wife buy all the ugly furniture she wants and she leaves me alone.:-D :-D :-D
Wiley Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 My wife does all the bookkeeping in our house, so she knows exactly what I spend money on. Fortunately she thinks its "cute" for me to indulge in my various hobbies. She's not opposed to smoking an occassional cigar with me either.
new2habano Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Unfortunatley wives are not like cigars, they don't get better with age so get yourself some freshies, they have that TWANG that your wives are missing.

She sees the bills and never mentions anything. She has at times asked if I was going to buy some expensive box of cigars and I always tell her the truth. Enough said.

The story goes here in chicago that the attorney who got a few years in prison for posession and sale of illegal contraband was turned in or witnessed against by his ex wife. Be careful, they know more than you think;-)
Miami101 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Hi Guys I feel your pain. I brought a new place, and create my own room just for my Cigars, Books, and Music. I have not been able to smoke one cigar in the room! My wife is Cuban, and smoke cigars long before me for religious reasons, and at a very young age. These days she does not smoke cigars, but understands my love for it. I smoke outside, driving, and when I go out. Yea I know she is the boss…I come to except this fact…even if I tell my friends other wise.
