Cigar Hunting in Miami with Carlos

This dark black wrapper provided a very strong complex deep full bodied

» smoke. This nice Robusto was very impressive and perhaps would be a good

» after dinner cigar.

Carlos,

You have stated that the dark wrapper provided a "Strong Complex and full bodied smoke". Please provide more details about why you consider all these aspects were from the wrapper. Also, I would like to understand why you feel the cigar was complex. You have not mentioned any flavors found while smoking the cigar, nor have you mentioned any building flavors or changing or evolving peaks or valleys while smoking the cigar. While strength of flavor and strength of body in a cigar are totally different issues, it appears that you are combining the two which not only does the cigar an injustice, it marks you as an amateur in evaluating them. If you are going to present a review, please do so, because the difference in tobacco grown in either the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras and that grown in Cuba makes all the difference in flavor and complexity while smoking a cigar. The two can not be compared as they are totally different. The true "Masters" that left Cuba are well past their prime and the people in Miami that are claiming that title are in no position to claim that title in my opinion. The true "Masters" that did leave left in the early 60's, which would make them well into their 80's now.

Carlos, Carlos, Carlos...

Dude. You're killing me! ;)

This is a forum dedicated to stellar Cuban cigars... You just can't come on in pimping brands out of Miami Lakes, bro. That's like comparing a Zebco 202 pushbutton reel to a Tibor made out of solid barstock aluminum...

I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of guys on this forum have ALREADY worked our way through 100's of Non-Cuban cigars. That's why we're HERE.

Now the tostada and the cafe con leche rocks...

:-D :-D

Carlos.

You need to chill mate. You are raising the hackles of some forum members and I can see why. Without knowing too much about you, we are not too sure which way to take your posts....ie genuine enthusiasm and willingness to contribute or someone who see's an opportunity to shill for mates.

I am going to assume the former. Just keep in mind this is a Habanos forum but that does not mean that we do not from time to time discuss other non Cuban cigars. We do...it is just not our main game. Hell....review some non Cubans but be surgical in analysis and comments. Look at our Cuban reviews....we bag the crap out of many :lol2:

Sit back and relax...post away. You have nothing to prove to us. I welcome you to this board which is a tight knit family.

Hi

Everyone

On the Habanos subject yes I know, but I was told it would be cool to have a point of view of some of the Miami Cigars. Also some of the Cigars I'm talking about have not hit the mass market, and some of them you can only get here in Miami.

On the Topic of Habanos:

As to the word Habanos: A denomination of origin for Cuban cigars, literally translates to Havanas. Havana (Spanish in full: La Habana, formerly named San Cristóbal de La Habana; UN/LOCODE: CU HAV) is the capital of Cuba and of one of the 14 provinces of Cuba, the one named Ciudad de La Habana.

On Andy statement I have one word for you. Pardon....It is just as good as any Cuban Cigar that I own. Also it is a same you are from Miami and dare put down the cigar makers from here. Perhaps you should get out more a learn about the city, and the histroy. Some of the Cigars coming out of Miami are just as good, and the process is even more rigorous then the Cuban cigars. I love my Cuban cigars, but I love my Pardon 1924, 1964, Series R, Padilla, Aura, Arturo Fuentes XXX, OPX etc.........

The reason I posted this information was because after getting over 350 view on my last posting...I had over 100 e-mails requesting more information on Miami cigars from people out side the US. Second it kind of suck that the people who are posting this attack on my post are from the US, and even Miami. What good information have you posted here on the Habanos site........If you don't like what I'm posting then don't read it. I'm Cuban and I will do what I want, and when I want it. Note I had been a member for some time, but did not want to post. Also I know the Miami cigars more then Cubans.....

I live it, love it...and show my respect for the older masters in Miami...

I love Cuban Cigars.....but I love the Habanos more.

At this point this all I'm going to say about this...if you feel the need contact me...via e-mail.......................................Hey Andy where are your photos???

Carlos, As mentioned before to you, this forum is a very close knit group of refined Cuban Cigar smokers.

As for doing and saying what you want and when you want, please be advised, that if the content or comments are out of line on this forum, or if I feel that you are in any way attempting to shill, then you will be moderated.

Is that clear enough for you?

And that is the rub.

I love Cuban Cigars...but I would never put them above question. I am a cigar lover first, member and friend 2nd, retailer a distant 3rd. I have been a critic of many Cuban cigars, a critic many times of Cuban cigar contruction and blend inconsistencies. When a brickbat needs to be thrown ...I throw it. When a bouquet is deserved, I give it. Nothing and no-one within the Cuban cigar industry is above comment....positive of negative. I love Cuba. I hate the government. I have said it time and time again. I wave no flags.

In assessing Non Cuban cigars I do the same and as a forum member would expect you to also do the same. Because cigar makers come from Miami does not mean that they should be granted exalted status. Assess their work impartially.

Let's look at your comments.

Some of the Cigars coming out of Miami are just as good, and the process is even more rigorous then

Cuban cigars. Some very good cigars coming out of Miami are good. They are however different as expected. Different in flavour profile. I love Padrom Anny's (1924/1964) but I love them for different reasons that I love Cuban cigars. The difference is what makes them special. I am no huge fan of Serie R, Padilla or most Fuentes including most of the OPUS. I did however review recently a Hemmingway Work of Art Maduro which blew me away. I do enjoy Don Carlos but would rather a Monte 4 than any Ashton VSG. I can go on and on as to the reasons why...which is what this forum is about because it is about experiences and opinions. Nothing is sacrosanct however.

I enjoyed the photo's of the Olivero store. To date I have not enjoyed any Oliveros I have tried and as a veteran of RTDA's...I have tried many of them. I find them one Dimensional in flavour although flawlessly constructed. I believe that light to mid body cigars should be immensely complex in which the Olivero fails. Does that make my opinion right? Hell no! I just would prefer in a light-medium bodied cigar a Padron Anny, Sancho Panza Molino, Juan Lopez Selecion No 1 or HDM Le Hoyo Des Dieux. All have complexity in spades.

In summary, play the ball and not the man....or in cigar speak, critically address the cigar.

Finally

I'm Cuban and I will do what I want, and when I want it.

Well you are welcome to in your world. Here however, you need to fit in with the code of of "Friends of Habanos".

I like to think that we have a great time and by reading the forum you know the feel of this house. Since it's inception, we have never had an internal brawl with a legitimate member. Respect the house.

The goal of my post was to show some photos from Miami. It just looks like you guys have lot's of people who like to start trouble, or have issue. Also I review most of the old post by these members and like I stated they have not added anything. This does not include the El Pres guy.....yea you know your stuff!

I think I have followed the rules, as to my non Cuban postings I ask 1st "Lisa" if it was O.K. to post "photos" people about Miami...Miami where I live. In fact some of the same people here having issues have post in the past lot's of None Cuban posting. I thought it would kind of be cool for poeple to see some of the Cigar action going on here in Miami. Also I had lot's more photo's of events from the local city. The gallery on this site is what I like most. For me it was kind of cool to see other people into cigars. Also I like to see where they hang out, them having a good time.

On the Cuban cigars I did not state they where less, then none Cuban's. I only stated that the Cubans here in Miami make great cigars, and have put lot's of time into the Farms to produce good stuff.

I have lot's of Cuban....more then most people I know....In fact my other post show my friends, and I having a good time smoking these Cubans.....come on now!

Now you guys say family: I have been here for a long time reading post, but had never posted in the reviews area. I did not feel I had the level, nor the time to speak my mind on the subject. Most of what I know are from the old Cuban's here in my city, and the old timers stories.

The photo gallery was kind of cool for me, and I always love the gallery area even the cigar porn, nudes posted, or fishing photos. This is why I posted here...no life or death posting....just a day in the life in Miami......Why some guys freak out...that is a good question. From the 1st post Tampa remarks where out of hand. These where just some photos with information. I have lot's of photo's hanging with cigar heros etc. Poeple these are just photos.....what do you care! There are lot's of posting out there which are point less. For example Andy post Hi I'm from Miami...don't mean to pick on you Andy I'm sure you are a cool guy..., or the manny Tampa post which give no reel information, or points on anything. It no big deal...you are just hanging out.....having a good time..

Well I tested the waters here on the SA Habanos site. It was full of sharks, and I for one do not like it. I think this will be my last posting on this site. I will try to find another site where people are a little more nicer to members. Those of you who have e-mail me thank you for your support, and e-mail questions. If you are coming down south to Miami let me know I will help you find great places to go when in the city. I take pride in my city, and my people......

Thank you

Carlos From Miami.

I have to beg to differ... I find Tampa's posts to be one of the most informative and full of knowledge in this community. He is always trying to help, if you got into a point where you're not getting along too well with him, than you should consider re-starting with the right foot at FOH.

I really don't want to be a smartass here, but Carlos, this board is by far the most friendly and informative I've been on the web. And I've been through many... But the point is this board is devoted for Habanos, as Rob mentioned this can be either to praise their qualities or to bad-mouth their inconsistencies and so forth.

I sincerely hope you can reconsider your decision, and also reconsider your opinion on FOH.

Rob is a gent i have hung with him and talked many time's on the phone with him .

Being Cigars or watchies he has taken time out to answer my questions .

Also as far as web sites go this is one of the very few easy going one's.

As Tampa knows there are some out there that can get the boat rockin;-) .

Also there are members here that know me from another site that you have to be strong as an ox to hang there.

Where ever you go i hope you have a fun time posting Carlos thanks for the picks.

If you do come back post pic's of the women from Miami in bikinis..:ok:

Also this is my 500 post what do i win ?

I would certainly second this. I have looked at other boards but the FOH is the only one I have signed up with. Good informed opinion and advice. :ok:..............plus you occasionally wet your pants with some of the humour.:rotfl:

I am not sure where we stand on membership numbers but I know we hit 1000 fairly recently. I would also find it odd that 10% (roughly) of the members emailed.

Good to know that he agrees EL Pres knows his stuff, I was getting nervous I was buying from some guy who just started his own board and shop for the hell of it.

Carlos, you should be proud of your city and I did enjoy the pictures but respect the environment that you are in when posting and making some of your comments.

Carlos.

Take some time out and re-consider. Good people who love cigars are always welcome. There is nothing wrong about being proud of your cuture, city, country etc. The photo's were excellent. Where we became confused and took exception were some of the comments which did not fit into our forum culture....of which we are also proud.

Your comments on Tampa are just plain wrong on so many levels that it doesn't deserve a response. Enough to say that no man here has helped more people than Chuck to find their way in the world of Cuban cigars.

Put your pistols back in the holster. Take some time off. If you wish to remain a member with a modified easy going outlook....you are welcome.

Wow

People really take things out of context.

1st I posted photos in the gallery area. I guess I forgot to ask the King, and so on if they approved. Let me ask you a question when did it become me vs FOH. Note I'm a member who has been here for some time. If I don't have any to say nice....I don't post...**** I started to post to be able to make some friends to back me up when I order.

2nd Did we forget the word freedom, freedom to put up photos related to Cigars etc....It looks like that freedom is lost here at FOH. Freedom to speak talk about the city they live.....I have even seen photos here of fish, cars, and chicks.....etc...

What was the big deal....I was talking about some cigars with my photos big deal get over it...Go back and review the attacks because that is what they are...I sure Tampa is a cool guy......but the way he came off was like an ass... I call it how I see it...I don't care who he is...In fact I would put money on it...he would never speak to me in person like this.....It about respect for person.....and the freedom to post cool photos.....Any way Tampa comments where not that bad...it was the second comments that I did not like...my 1st response was to AndyfakeMiami guy.

You know if you don't like someone photos just don't look at them. You don't have act like an ass.....or kick the new kid on the block down....I know guys like this.....

I don't have an issue with FOH.....I like the site....I have an issue with those people who should know how to act when they are part of the site. Why put someone down! It is really not cool when someone after months of being here starts to post and they are attack by those who should make you feel welcome......

Perhaps we should take this in account!

It is about doing you own thing......Yea my posting is a little crazy, pimp, local, Miami, but that is me....I kept to the rules, and also ask before I posted...

None Cuban's topic: I posted photo in the gallery area....not the debate area, review area etc........Also most of the attackers after reviewing old post by these guy have none Cuban post/.....so you point......

So what is the point of attacking someone for having a good time on your site. That is a good question...I like the photos in this post, and my other post.....I also love the gallery area on the FOH site that is why posted here.... I also love seeing other people city's.....

In Miam you have to give respect to get respect.......also we don't run our mounths......and if one of my boy's was out of line like this guy...I put him in check.... It not a good thing that anyone person can act in this manner when they work for this site........

This is my point of view, and only my point of view. Put your self in my shoes....I was having some fun posting up pic from the past and present....and some monkey starts to act up..and then the guys who works for the site jumps in on the fun....The funny thing is I did not even know that this guy was part of the site....this just takes it to another level.....

Power goes to some peoples head!

I vote for Freedom,....even freedom with in the rules.....if I did not break any rules why then is there a problem.
