cobra Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I'm running out of excuses for the wife. One that failed fairly quickly was "its an investment". Others than are getting less creditable are "Oh that order was canceled and you should see the credit on the next Master card bill" "I just want to replace what I gave your brother last time he was over" "These are the cigars I'm going to save for my next fishing trip" "I had to buy these right now . They are very limited/They are incredibly cheap right now. "These were actually made on the day we were married" (or the day our little babies were born) "If I don't keep the humidor filled they will all go bad" "I promise not to buy anymore this month" (best saved for the end of the month) "I'm going to put my entire Beanie Baby collection up on eBay" (now thats just a plain ole lie) "The others cigars are for saving....these are for smoking" Don't leave this where any wandering eyes can see it, the last two ideas are still fresh and all wives talk.
Colt45 Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 » What do you tell your better half? get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich.
purosdave Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 » » What do you tell your better half? » » get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich. This beer is almost empty too!
stogies&hoagies Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 » » » What do you tell your better half? » » » » get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich. » » This beer is almost empty too! LMAO Mine never says a word, of course she has no idea what cigars cost. Oh and I tell her the cuban cigars are cheaper than the domestic ones.
BigSlick Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 We keep seperate bank accounts, so I don't have to ask permission. I buy what I want. ;-)
josie67 Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Since she is also a cigar smoker, I ask her what she wants before I place the order. Have to love my wife for that P.

habanohal Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 My wife is great, but she cant stand cigars or how they smell ( lit or unlit) I use to get away with things like " Look at the boxes I won in the contest at FOH" or " Look what I got this fool to trade for, and show her a few boxes I got. I did let it slip last week when her boss wanted to buy a few boxes. The 2 he wanted were Cohiba Pyramis EL and RYJ churchill. I told him just give me $1000 and it will be good. She says " IS THAT WHAT YOU PAID FOR THOSE ******* THINGS!!!!" Well now she knows that I have approximately $18,000 in Cuban Cigars, but I say it is an investment and look at the profit I make when someone wants a box. Then I went into the clost to open the safe. Now we have a fairly large walkin closet which is all hers. ( I get the shelf in the laundry room) I move a few clothes and find a plethora of new Duney and bourke and Coach purses. She smiled and giggled and said "I guess I wont nag you on cigars, as long as we can pay the bills" So you find out that they hide stuff too. But now all is well in cigarland. I just sometimes here " Hey you got a package from Fed Ex. Do you want me to tell you what cigars came today " ;-)
Havana Joe Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 My wife realizes how many boxes I buy, but I take care of all of our finances so she has no clue on the amount of money that I spend...Shh....;-)
habanablue Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Fidel may be gone soon and so too my link with Fidel Era cigars...gotta buy up now! the quality will def. drop once fidel goes....
Smokin Bulldog Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I am still trying to get up the nerve for the big purchase;-) Hey, she said she wanted a baby and I want cigars. Seems like a fair trade.
El Presidente Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Give her whatever she wants. ....why it took me 20 years to learn that simple premise.....I will never know.....
anacostiakat Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 » Give her whatever she wants. » » ....why it took me 20 years to learn that simple premise.....I will never » know..... Yea that is how I operate. Fortunately it didnt take me nearly as long to learn. :-)
lfg2nrg Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I'm retired military so I have extended the "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy to our home. It also helps that I get home first to collect the mail.:-D
korryp Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Honestly, I don't have to tell her anything. She already knows that I like and buy cigars on a weekly or daily basis. She gets the mail.
strayvector Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I explain to her how I do this in moderation in comparison to others and show her pictures of other people's humidors.
Claudius Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 » I explain to her how I do this in moderation in comparison to others and » show her pictures of other people's humidors. LOL. I could probably do that for another month, but then it will be time to fill my huge cabinet that's on its way :-D
Tampa1257 Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I am currently interviewing prospective female cigar smokers as possible mating material. The applicants need to apply in person and be able to distinguish between Cuban leaf and Non-Cuban leaf cigars, and how to properly spot fakes. The other requirement is that she must be financially able to maintain as well as grow the inventory status of cigars as we will often consider Blind Taste Testings to provide continuing cigar education and stimulate our love of the leaf. She must enjoy all things about cigars and have ample room on her credit cards to purchase a minimum of 4 boxes a month!
anacostiakat Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 This is an interesting and timely post. Me espousa just told me today to go ahead an order a new Avallo DDD chilled unit to replace my Aristocrat endtable unit. "If that would make me happy"! Buwhahahahahahahahha!!!!!!!!

cvm4 Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I tell her this is what I like and she really can't say anything about it. She has her hobbies and I have mine. Eventually she got the clue and doesn't say much anymore ;-)
connoiseur29 Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I'm buying three boxes, two for you and one for me. It's a father's day gift My boss threatened to fire me. I'll buy you a case of white zinfandel and I'll buy a cabinet of Lusitanias, a fair trade. I'm protecting other people from the health effects of smoking We can make a lot on these at auction at Christie's and Sotheby's around retirement (proceed to give teh Davidoff Havana oration) All proceeds from Cohiba purchases go to charity (the zinger)
