This series seeks to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy.:cigar:

Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts.  This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.

To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well!

Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor)   4-6 (Average to good)   7-10  (very good to excellent)  Use the Poll.

Today: Cohina Maduro 5 Magicos  52 × 115 mm (4½″)

Take away the price line (if you can), the Cohiba Maduro Magicos is a seriously good cigar. Now I should preface that comment by stating that you need to love cocoa powder laden cigars. The Cohiba Maduro Magicos is dripping cocoa powder and cream from first draw to almost last, but building in body throughout to the point that the cocoa powder becomes some beautiful dark chocolate, almost cooking chocolate. I thoroughly enjoy this cigar but there are plenty who state it doesn't belong in the world of Cohiba. Others who criticise it for being too much of a one trick pony. I can understand both statements but in terms of being "one trick"....it is a hell of a one trick. ;)

I've only had one box and I didn't think they were worth much. Can't stand the size and wasn't a big fan of the departure from Cohiba flavors I prefer. They won't be getting any more of my coin. Baking chocolate is a good descriptor. They are in need of added sweetness. Not a lot, just some help. If these landed at bittersweet chocolate, I'd have enjoyed them more but the size would still take me out of the game.

For God’s Sake, don't tell Rob they are in need of Sweetness!!! 🫪😲

I believe I have only ever had two Magicos singles. The first one was an absolute nightmare to keep lit. The closest thing I can relate it to is having one of those 'fireproof' wrappers that some of the older LEs used to have. The second one burned and smoked fine; predominantly cocoa and coffee bean. Much like the Secretos but not nearly as 'in your face'. Regardless, the experience did not leave me dying to try more of them.

The Secretos will always win in this line for me, especially with some age. (Even better than the Sig I's I believe, which are also quite nice with age.) It's the value equation that's the main problem, which gets worse for the Magicos and Genios (though in order of preference, I'm Secretos, then Genios, then Magicos).

...Maduro CCs have always been a bit polarizing for folks. For me, there's a time and a place and variety is part of the fun.

Among the sweetest Cuba produces. You may dislike it just because of the expectation from the brand. Ages very well, I have a 2007 first release box of the 3 offerings and prefer it more than the Secretos or Genios.

Cuban Maduros don't really scratch the itch for me.

As, from their announcement, I saw it as a fad thing and a purely profit driven move by Habanos to widen the Cohiba range (well, different times 🙄) by adding a Maduro line, I ‘boycotted’ it right from the beginning. That has not changed in twenty years. So far, I never strayed away from the Classic and Siglo lines (bar the odd Limitada). Perhaps I am and have been missing out 🤷‍♂️. But going by this thread as well as by many mixed reviews over the years I don’t feel the urge wanting to find out soon.
