rcarlson Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Interesting mix of wrapper shade. And I would've expected the bands to be far more stained. After that, I got nothing. Vintage Davidoff are a white whale I schmuck like me has no familiarity with. Inspector Clouseau has spoken. You're welcome.
JohnS Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Like @rcarlson mentioned, I also couldn't imagine that a box of Davidoff No.1s would have so much variance in wrapper shade. Someone's most likely got a hold of some older singles of Montecristo Especials and replaced the bands with Davidoff bands they've acquired of eBay. Just my 2 cents. 3
Puros Y Vino Posted March 9 Posted March 9 The cigar shades are a huge problem for me. The quality of the sticks varies as well. Some of those heads look like c**p. As for the box code, I'll quote CCW. "Cuban cigar boxes produced since 1985 contain a coded date stamp. Prior to 1985, there was no official date identification on boxes (some dealers dated the boxes themselves, usually handwritten in pencil)." I've seen penciled in box codes on older boxes. This stamp looks every odd. It looks like someone put this together from here and there. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Only ever smoked these in the 5-pack cardboard where each cigar was in cellophane. I would expect to see a little oxidation on the gold leaf lettering. 1
Havanaaddict Posted March 9 Posted March 9 The box looks right, but the cigars are a little on the rustic side, especially if they’re trying to say this box was from the 70s, which was the beginning of Davidoffs venture with Cubatabaco and El Laguito. They were very specific on all their material being top of the top so I would expect to see almost vein-less wrappers. Every Davidoff I have seen were light in color more along the Cohiba lines. 3
El Presidente Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 A little more sauce to the dish. The same seller put these up today. 1
JohnS Posted March 10 Posted March 10 They're supposed to be Cohiba Esplendidos? There's no sheen, no vitality whatsoever to the wrappers at all. Not Cohiba-like in any way. 4
JDoughty Posted March 10 Posted March 10 None of the older Cuban Davidoffs I've seen have wrappers that rough. Granted, I have only seen a very limited selection, but those look pretty egregious. I don't think they would have gotten past Davidoff QC. 4
