Too blurry for my old eyes.

I couldn't read that even if it wasn't blurry.

Partagas 898 unvarnished I believe. Shorter box than the varnished version.

I had a box of those where the first 2-3 were tent pegs. Wrote the box off for decade and figured I give one ago and the rest were perfect.

Age can do amazing things to tent pegs.

I think I may have smoked at least one of each of those. Only one, I'm not sure if it was the Unvarnished 898.

Unfortunately, I've never found that to be the case with TPs. I've hung on to stuff for years and years and they've never improved.

I only have an empty box from eBay. Never had one. How does it compare to the 898v?

Cannot remember what was different, sorry. Was over a decade ago. I think they are both slightly different sizes. Had the old blend before everything changed a bit.

For the varnished, I had only ever bought the 3-4-3's and that was a wicked long time ago.

Can do - not will do. Hopelessly plugged is just that.

As far as the 898 goes they are slightly different sizes and blends. Both wonderful cigars. Can’t decide which I prefer but I’ve had much older UV which are spectacular.

The Unvarnished 898's were a bit crude looking, I remember that.

Too tightly bunched can basically dry out over time. Badly bunched, there's no cure.

According to my spreadsheet I have 1 unvarnished 898 left. I had no inkling they were a different blend/cigar. I thought they were just a different era. Now to find the bugger...

Pictures for those interested.

Those are some beautiful boxes. Thanks for sharing the photos. I never realized that the unvarnished was a completely different size from the varnished. Great to see that laid out in the photos.
