I will wait until the end of the week to see how many more backward somersaults the genius makes. Somersault No 1. Hours before the sweeping tariff was set to take effect, U.S. Customs and Border Protection sent a memo informing importers that the rate would be 10% at first and that it would apply to "every country for a period of 150 days, unless specifically exempt," starting at 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday. A White House official confirmed to NBC News that the message to importers was correct. The global tariff will start at 10%, the official said, but the administration is working on raising it to 15% in a separate order that Trump will need to sign. The official did not have a timeline for when that would occur. 1

rcarlson Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I'll wager the new tariffs will be removed on those willing to waive refund of the tariffs already imposed.

Imagine the sheer administration in that scenario? Class action expressions of interest have been received since Monday. US lawyers haven't missed an opportunity. FEDEX/Costco are the first to go to court. There may be thousands of actions. One of the great own goals of political history.

This also is why businesses have not labeled the increase as a tariff surcharge; if they had, you'd likely see consumer lawsuits for refunds from those businesses.
BrightonCorgi Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Everything happens at lightning speed as do our expectations. What will the news/political cycles and our expectations be like in 10 or 20 years from now? Instant gratification won't be fast enough. AI should anticipate and react before instant gratification, lol.
