HoyoDC Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 Is MJ the greatest athlete ever? He is in good company with Muhammad Ali, Pele but did anybody else have his drive and versatility?
JohnS Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 We did discuss this in the thread below not too long ago... Certainly, Michael Jordan is one of the best athletes of all time, in his field. But the very best? Well, that's open to debate. 2
HoyoDC Posted November 7, 2025 Author Posted November 7, 2025 Thx John, will do more checking next time. Shariff 1
Ken Gargett Posted November 8, 2025 Posted November 8, 2025 it does raise an interesting question. athlete as opposed to sportsman. 3

MadridPuros Posted Saturday at 05:01 AM Posted Saturday at 05:01 AM It’s very clear to me the greatest athlete of all time is Tiger Woods!

ha_banos Posted Saturday at 01:58 PM Posted Saturday at 01:58 PM Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr is a great all round athlete and has dominated CrossFit for what 8 years? Matt Fraser too for 5 years. This is not a thing one can keep up for too many years. The work that goes into multidisciplinary athletics is nuts. But too niche to be known outside of the sport. I wonder how many others exist in terms of athleticism in niche sports. Saying that I consider Squash niche and have never before this thread heard of Heather McKay.
joeypots Posted Saturday at 02:49 PM Posted Saturday at 02:49 PM I think the best of type discussions come down to what we like. Bobby Orr was my childhood sports hero. Bill Russell was the winning-est professional athlete but was he the best athlete? Muhammed Ali was the most famous athlete of the 20 century, was he the best athlete? We could argue this stuff all year.

I don't know what they are my point is his legacy goes far beyond what he did on the court which is unmatched....how many championships was he responsible for . I agree with Ken Donald Bradman was a smidgeon from being perfect and in a time where the country and entire world were in disarray his performances gave a country hope and something to believe in. Off field the perfect gentleman and a class act. Tiger on the golf an absolute superstar off it his public shame and disgrace demonstrates what a weak POS he really is. Such a pity he could have done far more performance wise and for the game of golf. Mohammed Ali....was life time ahead of himself a shaker a mover a dancer and by God the most incredible boxer we have ever seen. I could only imagine the shame he must feel for what the sport of boxing has to offer today.....I mean you have people like Floyd Maywhether claiming he is the best ever with 50 and 0 . The guy cant even take his kids to school unless he has 5 body guards with him.
