redpastel Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Lately I've been running into an issue where anything I smoke tastes salty. Even sticks I know that don't have salty notes. It's not even a subtle salt, I'm talking about a spoon full of salt. I've tried everything, water, mouthwash, brushing teeth, eat a full meal, spicy food, non salty foods, no food. Resting my palate for a few days helps, but after a few days it returns and comes back. Those of you that play golf, I compare it to having the "shanks". It appears out of nowhere. Any help or feedback please!! -Newbie member but cigar enthusiast for over 12 yrs.

Seriously, you may want to get some blood work done. Constant thirst or weird tastes can be a sign of something else.
Chibearsv Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 I'm going to ask a question as if I could have a response based on knowledge or similar experience (which I won't), I'm curious is all. Is it just smoking that delivers the salt taste, or is it other food or drink as well?

I'll ask physician in a few weeks.

I can taste all food very well and even when something is bland and needs salt. It's like every 3 or 4 cigars, the salt comes back.
cybermadhatter Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Are you smoking by a beach? Are you smoking Sancho Panza? Are your sinuses okay?

I had terrible allergies and certain OTC meds gave everything a metallic or saline quality until I found other ways to get rid of sniffles. 1 1

I would not sit on this either. 1
teamrandr Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Sounds like you already know the answer here. Stop smoking as much.
Gemini_Man Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 I have had similar experiences and I found that I had Boveda packs sitting directly on my naked cigars in airtight containers. They didn't leak or anything but the cigars directly in contact with the packs all had way more salinity than usual. Now I only put the Boveda packs on cellophane wrapped cigars or with a cedar sheet between the cigars and the Boveda pack. 1 2
