This series seeks to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy.:cigar:

Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts.  This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.

To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well!

Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor)   4-6 (Average to good)   7-10  (very good to excellent)  Use the Poll.

You are more than free to comment away ;)

Today and tomorrow, two cigars that compete head to head in the same segment. The Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto and the Montecrtisto Petit Edmundo. This poll is for the Montecristo Petit Edmundo.

I am a fan of both. Let's go a little deeper into the weeds.

Outside of the poll, which do you prefer and why? Let us know in this thread ;)

I am a fan of the Montecristo Petit Edmundo, but I've never really connected with the Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto. There's been no real reason for that, other than the fact that I've been content with other options in the Hoyo de Monterrey range.

Do love a Petit Edmundo, and would have more if not for the premium HSA put on Montecristo.

I prefer the standard Edmundos though, which have all been knock outs for me.

I prefer the Petit Edmundo to the standard and the double. It packs more of a punch than those two. I haven't cracked open my box of Wide Edmundo yet so I can't say how the two stack up against each other.

Either they do come with a difficult burn (uneven bunching) or they bore me no end (at least it’s a short smoke). Perhaps I’ve had a lot of bad luck with them, but even apart from that, for me personally, one of the least interesting formats in the Montecristo vitolario. There’s five, six, seven (hell, what I am talking… ten!) Monte formats I’d rather smoke, before I reach for a Petit Eddy.

Well it's only taken 10 years for me to disagree with one of your  posts. 😀😚. Your knowledge and input helps makes this place great!

Always been a fan. Consistency and construction have always been good to me. These were once a daily smoke for me. Just a couple a month now. One of the first Cuban Cigars I fell in love with. Now I love them all. The PE holds a special place.

I think the WE blows the doors off a PE.

I like the Petit Edmundo (always a good burn) and have mostly good luck with them except for a few bland ones. For me, I would rather smoke the Edmundo which has treated me better.

Damn, what have I done there?!! :surprised: :D

Haha, fully aware I’m in the minority here, West. You know, all just personal preference, no right or wrong I guess.

I sure know it’s a favourite of many a respected folk out there, if only to name you in a row with Edward Sahakian!

(But, yeah... :whisper: may have been put a tad too pointed, I admit, they’re not that bad. 😂 )

Hands down my favourite Monte. Love the blend. The rest of the Edmundo line doesn't perform nearly as well for me.

I haven't tried the PE since it's a size that just doesn't work for me. I'll take the regular Edmundo in this line. It delivers what I expect or better. I'm not looking for 95 points or a soul searching experience from them. Creamy, milk chocolate, forest floor funk, and a little twang. Most times one of those elements is more forward than the others, but when they are in balance, it's a fine cigar.

So… pulled out another PE to review whether I’ve perhaps been too harsh (unfair?) in my assessment. Not making this up - the outcome is exactly as what feels like every other Monte PE for me.

Underfilling with an uneven bunching causing hollow burn and canoeing. I just hate having to do triple puffs to keep a cigar going, and to burn away half the wrapper in the futile attempt to keep the burn line in check. You never, literally never, get that with an Espy2, and rarely even in a M5/M4.

(See what I mean @westg? 🥲)
