I wonder if she'll transition in the franchise or just be fluid. Would make a great sub story.

geopolitical misteps

That's definitely one way of putting it. People are trying to weigh up the calculous of their potential investments, against the backdrop of events past, present and potential futures. For me it's much more simple personal calculous, and I find it eternally depressing that it isn't that way for the rest of society. Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and Curtis Yarvin are all eugenicists, racist, misogynist despots and I wouldn't give them the steam off my p*ss.  I may be poorer financially for doing so, but I would not trade that for how I would feel about myself.

Much like if there was a horse at the races called 'Enochs White Power Pony'. or 'Pol Trot'. I would not be betting on it.

Incidentally do Geopolitical misteps look a bit like this?

Yep, crazy...or maybe Bond could wrestle in bed, and be over powered by an muscular androgynous looking black women...AND seem to like it!!???

Oh wait a minute...Crap...This already happened 1985!!!!! The world's gone mad! Personally I'm absolutely disgusted, and feel massively let down by the whole of Broccoli family...and Pinewood Studios...and especially Oddjob! An absolute diabolical liberty.

I was talking about transitioning from Aston to Jaguar.

I know you were mate, it wasn't a dig at you, I was just using it as a vehicle (pardon the pun) to maybe pose a question mark as to whether or not as a society are regressing, as to things we find shocking or challenging.

Not challenging, just idiotic.

...Be it Jaguar or Elon.

Dang. I was deliberately setting up an on topic cheap shot honey pot there. And naively didn't think anyone would see through it.

I'm not very good at being a smart ass.

I think looking back what Jaguar may have attempted, was to draw some parallel to the New Romantic movement in the 1980s. Colourful, odd, androgynous. In the 1980s New Romantics was to a large degree seen as a pro-Thatcher right wing movement, aspirational, and the antithesis to anti-establishment Punks. Jaguar got it wrong in so many different ways, but the main one being, that the right wing of today wouldn't be caught dead dressing like this, and the left wing hasn't got any money.

Duran Duran's Rio music video looks like it's been made by Jaguar's current team. The difference being in the 1980's people seemingly weren't having conniption's about dayglow jackets.

So finally this thread had me go read around a bit. I have zero interest in Jaguar. Never owned one. But seems we've missed the point. The claim from Jaguar, of course, is the drop in sales is part of the strategic rebrand decision. To cease sales for 12 months. So no new cars have been available since April this year. They've yet to launch the new range. So of course, the sales figures for the year will tend to 0! So there's no point looking at the sales drop figures. It's the strategic plan. Probably to come out, so to speak, with pronouns blazing!

We really have to wait and see when their EVs come to market. A bit nuts choosing to stop sales for a year. Just goes to show how powerful marketers can be. Can you imagine the board meetings?

Only, like these ads, no one's seen any cars...

I see your parallel. One is a rock band phase (late 70's into early 80's?) and the other a corporate virtue signalling pukefest phase (2013-2024).

Hopefully both retired to the annals of history :D

Robotaxi and Tesla Energy (Energy storage & grid storage) are by and large their largest revenue generating opportunities. If there’s anyone I wouldn’t doubt it’s Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and Elon Musk.

...Maybe a Bentley I could see with a battery? Like the diamond studded Cartier with quartz? But for me Aston and Ferrari I just can’t get my head around an EV version even though I am sure they would be fun to drive.

For sure a Rolls Royce begs for an EV. The Rolls Royce Spectre is one of best cars on the road. Jaguar will never come close.

A Subaru Forrester, more like it.

Jaguar is no longer Tata?

They are still with Tata according to publicly accessible information, but there's supposedly a partnership of some sorts going on. Tata never wanted Jaguar, but it came as a package deal with JLR. Tata would love to offload Jaguar, but who wants it at this point?

If they are committed to being an EV company, perhaps Tesla should buy it.

Musk might be a bit crazy but I don't think he's that crazy enough to buy Jaguar and get whacked.
