ha_banos Posted June 19, 2025 Posted June 19, 2025 🤷♂️Why should only Habanos prosper? Can I come work for Fabrica5 please? Hard working smart a$$who thinks he's funny. Will clean and BBQ for cigars. https://halfwheel.com/european-union-considering-a-1092-percent-cigar-tax-increase/452366 1 1
JohnS Posted June 19, 2025 Posted June 19, 2025 So just as Habanos S.A. justified exorbitant price rise by aligning themselves with Hong Kong three years ago, the European Union would like to align themselves with he price of cigars in Australia currently? 2

Here tax on cigars is £417.33 per kilo. Seems like the EU taxes are still a bargain compared to us (lower case.) €143 per kilo proposed. Surely not all EU states would vote this in... But in today's world? Who knows!!!
yossie Posted June 19, 2025 Posted June 19, 2025 I don't know anything though...Brexit was right, wasn't it?

How long ago were the incredibly high taxes on cigars implemented in Australia?

M777 Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 This has always been my fear in the USA as well. And that’s exactly why I’ve been stockpiling, aging, and vac sealing NCs and CCs since 2008 (CCs to a much lesser extent since 2021, unfortunately due to prices). In IL we have a 36% tax rate on cigars (due to increase this July 1st). Having said that, I haven’t bought a single cigar here in IL in 15 years or so.
